I had a look at the running club thread but I got really scared by the statistics and ran away again

Ooh, no, don't - go back as they are lovely! :A They even put up with me for a bit when I pretended to be a runner. They are very welcoming to beginners and don't expect you to be super-fast to begin with. Some of them are very good, though. ;) It can help focus you.

Might take you up on that one :rotfl:

Is 12 weeks long enough to put in a reasonable attempt at a half?

Definitely not, most of the plans are for 16 weeks but once you've run apparently your "body remembers". Completely stupid people (like my husband) just decide to run 13 miles straight off when they haven't run for months

All you need is to do 3 runs a week and increase your miles as you go, you will be absolutely fine, you are a marathon runner :D

You could join a club as most do weekend runs, which would help with the longer distances. Then you might meet up with people who would like to join you at a later time on non-club nights  Might be worth enquiring.

Oooh, I'm getting the bug, just talking about it! Once the snow melts.....
Though OH is out as we speak :o Though he does have all terrain trainers, if that's what they're called.

The only ones I have found that have weekend runs are the other side of the city to me, and because they interfere with skiing in terms of timing etc, they didn't "fit".

When I was doing my marathon milage, I would just park the car at the ski club and run from there......there is a lovely lake to run round which is perfect.....then back to the ski club for a hot shower and a hot chocolate in time to collect the kids from skiing.....

I need to get back into that habit I think, as it worked well in terms of timing and distance etc.....and it is a 3 mile route, so a couple of times round that is a perfect run......

  • Back in work and hopefully a normal(ish) working week. Was snowing a bit this morning but couldn't hack another day at home. OH is away for a few days and kids back at school so we can all stop having that cooped up feeling.

Got into work and the heating is broken so waiting for it to be fixed yet again

Hoping to spend no money today but think I have insufficient food supplies to see me through the day so may have to get some fruit or something, will see how my will power holds out.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hi IMD,
I still follow your thread with interest. I know there is alot of chat about running and pushing yourself further so I saw this competition "Win a place 2010 London Marathon" and thought of your thread. Im not a runner and might be beyond your targets, but i just put it out there

Brrrr! Hope the heating got fixed....

We've had a few inches over night and are expecting more tomorrow. Picked up DD1 with a letter to say that her school (which was the only one in the area open last week - ALL week) might have to close tomorrow due to snow!
