Hi IMD
Just to say that I have spent most of today reading your diary! In between family things, doing new year cards, etc etc. I am glad that you had the heart to tackle your debt. Well done on that.
Sorry to hear that your OH doesn't quite get it yet. It must be so hard when the person you love so very much, can cause you so much stress, because they haven't had their light bulb moment yet.
But I am sure that you will start making great strides in 2010. Just remember when you DO get that 50k job, that 70% of the wage rise goes to debt busting and 30% to enjoying yourself. That way you get some benefit
happy 2010

:hello: everyone!
Am just about to sit down with my 2010 plan. Tonight I am going to:-
- prepare my marathon training plan
- sort out weekly meal plan within budget
- visit Payment a Day thread to get some ideas
- attempt to balance the budget from last few days spends
- update budget and signature but not on here until it's gone down
Feel a bit cross with ourselves as OH needed some shoes and we were out shopping yesterday and so I told him he could but annoyed at how much was spent! I'm annoyed as he asks me if it's ok and I end up saying yes even though it isn't ok and even though he knows it isn't!! The only thing now is he is now saying to ME that we have to keep money tight this month - I am hoping that with the savings tins etc we can budget for clothes etc better and avoid these difficult conversations.
I am absolutely determined to get through 2010 and end up £20k in less debt. Have made some contacts re other jobs and I really hope this is a good year to change for the better
Will report back and catch up on other threads when I have completed said tasks1st debt - Next [STRIKE]£583.32[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£408.71 [/STRIKE] £0 :j

2010 will be a good year - I absolutely know it will. Believe me, the totals do soon make much more pleasant reading - much quicker than you would think, and I am sure that 20k will be gone before you know it!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Yep, agreed.
I personally will be glad to be shot of this decade and am feeling V. positive about the next one.
Today I received a Reader's Digest promise of £250k if I open the orange envelope that is winging it's way to me. I was daydreaming whilst doing the ironing about how I would help out some of my DFW friends and would defo lob you a bit
You will get there. When do you go back to work? I wonder if there will be glad tidings regarding the payrise? Things will go your way I'm sure - chin up0 -
Well I've done the Marathon training plan and the updated bit  May brave it and update signature as fresh start to year, will see....
Macgirl - what a kind thing! Have to say I also daydream about what I would do with any money if I won and I would also think about people on here, isn't that odd when we don't even know each other
Books aren't balancing as the online statements aren't up to date but think I've balanced them out. Just got to buy some dog food before I forget, then I'm going to menu plan.
Back at work on Monday, I spoke to someone in a similar field to me on Sunday who is going to ask about vacancies about where he is, which is a Government body and more job possibilities so I may wing my cv out to them.
I honestly felt like I was verging on the brink of a nervous breakdown before finishing work but have really chilled out this last week, even so much that OH has noticed. I really do think that it is making me ill all the worry and stress which is making me think that I HAVE to leave and look for something else. Ooooh so so so much to do!!1st debt - Next [STRIKE]£583.32[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£408.71 [/STRIKE] £0 :j

It is really tough when you feel that stressed. I frequently get to that point and have to work really hard to pull myself back to something approaching "neutral" in order that I can carry on.
My difference, I suppose, is that I love my job, and I love the place I work - although sometimes it can be the most frustrating and stressful place ever.......and it often invades my sleep at 2am or 3am as I start to think of all the things I need to do/should have done yesterday!
So many people (including the boss, which surprised me) commented on how much more "energy" I had on returning from my holiday......those comments really made me realise that my negative state of mind was not contained to myself, but I was radiating crapness, (can't think of any other way to put it), and that is not the impression I want to give! So I NEED, absolutely NEED, to make more time in 2010 to destress and relax in order that I can do my work more efficiently, and enjoy it more.....it is a bizarre spiral - and depending on which way you are heading on that spiral, it can be a really good thing or a really bad one - I need to be going the good way!
Sorry - my post turned into a bit me me me me me!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Not really Hypno, I think you've hit the nail on the head.
Working full time (and I include myself in that, I "only" do 4 days, but they are all 12hours+) in a demanding role, running a home, clambering out of debt and trying to crowbar in being a loving wife and attentive mother IS stressful.
When the tornado ceases for a week or so - due to a holiday or Christmas - it's easy to think clearly, re-assess what's important, makes new plans, declutter etc and everything clicks into sharp focus.
Then back to work and the whirlwind starts again!
Giving up work would alleviate some of the problems, but like you, I love to work and love my job (mostly ) - plus I do rather like and need the salary at the moment
I honestly can't see a way out until we're debt free - so until then, we'll have to continue to support each other. I certainly find solace in the fact that there are others out there like me.
Here's to Running and Yoga and Debt Freedom in the the New Year!!! :beer:0 -

I work in a shoe shop, IMD, and often (but, of course, not always) paying more for a pair of shoes means that they last longer. Try to think of it as a longer-term investment than a cheaper pair. (Little help, I know, but it might make you feel a bit better.) I bought some foundation the other day: I was running out of the old stuff and really needed some. I paid £24 for some, which is a lot of money, but I know that; 1) it suits my skin tone (I'm very, very pale so it's hard to get a tone that light - living in a jar of vinegar isn't all it's cracked up to be for your skin
) 2) it lasts for AGES (a year or so); 3) it would cost me much more in the long term to buy several cheapers ones to find one that suits me as my experience with foundations lower down the scale is generally bad. Overall, I forked out a fair chunk of money, but it does the job well and I could easily buy 3 bottles at over £10 each and still not find one that does the job as well. To me, that's value-for-money.
BTW, I soooo feel you on the new job thing...that's my New Year's resolution as well. I will apply for some new ones, starting today.
Today's plan: apply for at least one new job before work.
(Sorry, that turned out a bit me, me, me and I'm only trying to sympathise!)

Can I crash this thread and ask some of you (IMD and others)who are in the know about running??? I am a very busy person who needs to lose weight ( a few stones)and get fit. I am thinking of running/walking to do this as I can fit it in when I get time without having to worry about gym times (not that I can afford it) or kicking hubby out of lounge to get on Wii. I am fairly overweight so running a marathon straight off would probably kill me but how can I start? where could I go (online maybe) to help me create a good regime which will help to incorporate walking/running at least 5 times a week for 30 mins (gov exercise recommendations)
Any ideas?
Thanks0
