Admittedly I haven't read all of this thread, but being in a similar situation -ie massive debt - at LBM approx £86000!!! (all secretly accumulated by darling hubby)
I also thought about cancelling our pet insurance - 2 mad Cocker Spaniels here by the way.
I hmm'ed and haww'ed for months, then at the turn of the year there, one of our babys developed a swelling on the side of her face - ulitimately, one op, umpteen vet visits and a long term course of antiBs later we were just shy of £1000 worse off.
Am I glad I kept those insurances going?
All we had to stump up was the excess £70 - phew.
By the way my baby is fine now - as beautiful as ever.Don't try to keep up with the Joneses - Drag them down to your level - it's cheaper .0 -
Well he is trying.....very trying.
We have just laughed a lot, having washed and conditioned the doll's hairs (all 5 of them) me and OH have just sat brushing out all the knots and stickers (??) like it was a normal Monday night thing to do - OH quietly muttered "rock and roll" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Insurance - I just cannot bring myself to cancel it! If I had to have any of them put down for something like the stone then it would be horrendous. Think I will get a pot of £1k together and then cancel it. Now to break the news to OH - will wait until he's finished brushing the hair.....1st debt - Next [STRIKE]£583.32[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£408.71 [/STRIKE] £0 :j

:rotfl: Oh IMD, your diary has really made me laugh this evening. Thank you, it's just what I needed!0

you're right OH's aren't quick, mine only this month has finally realised that going into your overdraft means there's less money the following month. Suppose 18 months isn't a bad turn around on banking lessons. i'm hoping soon that he'll start checking his bank account more regularly, ok not as often as i do - 5 days a week on average, but one day a week would be good.0

I don't think my husband knows how to use online banking.....he can't even remember who the mortgage was with.
The dolls' hair now looks fantastic

Oh, IMD, you have made me laugh after a pooey day, especially your big fainting pic!
I think that keeping the pet insurance, for the time being at least, is the way to go.
Perhaps if you pointed out to OH that his logic is correct, but not taking into account the fact that he needs to pay back the money, not stand still at the level of debt you are in, then give him a few days to ruminate on it, and it might sink in. Thinking periods seem to be the key!

That's how I get the men in my life to do the things I want them to: put it to them like it was their idea all along and however would I cope without them!(Er, that sounds like there's lots of men - there isn't. I mean my friends - and my dad, whose DIY skills are invaluable in my flat. But he stays 2 hours away so bribery and flattery are necessary

I totally agree that men can take a while to absorb it.I don't think they are programmed to think of more than one thing at a time...I know my DH is an excellent worker so let him do that while I do the finances but I do often sit and explain the plans in very simple terms so that he gets it.0
