  • Dunno what you do or what size company you work for, but how about organising some social activites for the company? That way you get to meet loads of the opposite sex and their mates, and have a good time and a social life as well. Or - join a tennis club, golf club, local walking group, get your exercise and............they usually have a bar and plenty of social activities.
Failing that........sign yourself up for a charity challenge and ask all your mates, workmates, the girl in the corner shop, to sponsor you, you could do something heroic and either collect your money to pats on the back or loads of sympathy for your broken leg. Whichever, throw a party at your local (cash bar only !), for all your sponsors.
You never know what's round the corner, so if you make sure you're having a good time whilst you're waiting for Miss X the time will quickly pass. The more people you talk to the more chance you have of talking to someone who knows someone who has a mate etc.
Internet dating sites? The odds are good, but the goods can be odd.
You've got a terrific opportunity for a party - house warming! Invite the neighbours, girl from the corner shop, postie.............anyone and everyone. If you've go a garden in the new place, follow up with a couple of BYO barbies in the summer, world cup celebrations or wake, then it's bonfire night and another excuse for something. The list is endless...........

I'd say stick with it, Tom -you mentioned going speed dating just the once, then gave up - you started a dating initiative last year, then stopped - a sustained campaign should produce results. Try speed dating again, check out Internet dating sites, put an ad in the paper...and keep at it.

It may be a good idea to list out exactly what you're after and target your search along those lines - eg does she have to like travelling, if so put an ad in "Wanderlust", if she has to be a food gourmet join a supper club - you get the drift.

Good luck and keep us posted!

(I like the idea of an MSE dating forum - what about it Martin?! At least we all have MSE ways in common, a good start!)

Funny I was talking to a couple of 30 something female colleagues on Thursday and they were bemoaning the lack of single guys looking for more than a S**G.

    Hey!

What is wrong with the us single Southern women?

(Actually I'm not sure I want an answer to that one....it might start a turf war :rotfl:)

    Tom,

You come across a really likeable person. Dont give up on finding someone - its easy to leave it to fate but I think a previous poster was right about maybe you should try the speed dating and other tactics more than once. It might feel like hard work but if it is really what you want then go for it.
