am bit confused how to answer this - perhaps they had run out of application forms? anyone working at argos help here? its not usual argos way. tbh you dont normally submit a cv and THEN fill out application form. i would ask at local jobcentre also as my local argos had application forms availble there. but this seems strange to me.0

The assistant manager said it was to cut costs so that application forms were not wasted on unsuitable candidates, and she said they would have the forms in after they had interviewed by the end of septemberAnd yes the lady in the avatar is me

How strange. I just pulled my application form off the website here: http://www.argoscareers.com/christmas/
It even says on the website to get one in store OR print it off from the web.0 -
In regards to the CV/Application issue, i've never heard anything like it, might have just been the individual store you were applying to. The truth of the matter is that CV's are useless, they only tell us a fraction of what we are looking for, that's why we ask people to fill out application forms at Christmas rather than CV's.
The gist of what the application form asks you is for name, address, BACKGROUND of education and work, your flexibility, do you need a work permit, do you have a criminal record. A three page CV contains unnecessary information about hobbies and personal statements and ambitions.
We've got about 30 Christmas jobs in our store this year, and over the year since January we've received about 170 CV's.
Sadly, in order to survive the credit crunch, stores have had to make cuts in certain areas, so to ring up each time a CV is handed in would not only cost a lot of money for the calls (because many applicants usually only provide a mobile number) a member of the recruitment staff would need to ring each person, costing manpower or taking them away from doing their paid job.
I was given the task of ringing 10 former Christmas temps to see if they were interested in coming back to us for Christmas this year, a job that would have normally taken about an hour maximum I had to do over two weekend working days, 14 hours, because I had to do my normal job too because we were so busy.
If someone hands us in a CV now we ask them to fill out an application form in store then we can attach their CV to the form.
PLEASE REMEMBER to read my signature that i'm not an official Argos rep on here, and that the experiences I describe are from working at my own store.[DISCLAIMER: Any posts made by myself are my opinions and do not represent my employer]

My son handed in a CV about 3-4 weeks ago and has not completed an application form. He has a groups interview this Friday. Fingers crossed, he needs some temp money coming in as he's back at college now.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I have just printed off the application form and will attach my cv to it, i dont put down hobbies and interests down on mine, if they want to know about that, surely they will ask in the interview if its relevant??And yes the lady in the avatar is me

If your offered a job at Argos would you start your normal hours straight away or would it be a days training here and there?0
-
At my store if you are offered the job you would be given a start date and you would work your contracted hours from the start. The first couple of days will be training. Training is mainly watching DVD's and using the computer.0

I believe this is true for midweek staff.
The Argos week runs from Sunday - Saturday.
Weekend staff on a 7 hour contract at my store would start on a Saturday and do a 6-hour training day, then from the new week (Sunday) you would start your contracted hours.[DISCLAIMER: Any posts made by myself are my opinions and do not represent my employer]
