yh i think i wont bother attaching a cv if they have tht application form. But they havent left you much room to add any detail about school grades so do u just put the main ones?

Yeah i read somewhere else, that they do group interviews mostly and make you design some kind of superhero or something and some maths tests.

    lmao! A superhero?? Strange! haha.

Erm for the education I'd put your highest grades... so depending on what you have I'd put the highest ones on it.... although if you can fit more you might as well do it.

Yeah, the more info provided the better i guess. I am just worried as this is hoping to be my 1st job and because so many people apply, they might just disregard the people who are looking for their 1st job and have no employment history :( sucks.
I'm worried about this too but if the reason for not having been employed is age then I've heard that places often like to employ under 21/under 18 as they can pay them less.

This is true yeah. Depending on the job.

Although for me its no help cause I'm 22 now.

I am a current argos employee who started as a Christmas temp and can tell you what happens at my store which is a large city centre store.

When I applied I just completed the application form without including a CV although I know that many people do bring a CV along with them to interview. If you included it with your app I doubt it will get read. Stores receive hundreds of applications. You should hand in the application form to the store you want to work at as early as possible, If you can pick a time when its not busy you could ask to speak to the duty manager and hand in you app to them.

I wouldn’t worry too much about not having experience especially if it’s your first job. The vast majority of Christmas temps are either students or recent school leavers. The key thing that my store looks for is flexibility and willingness to work overtime.

The store I work at uses group interviews of around 10 people. The purpose of the group interview is to see how you interact with the other candidates and to see whether your general attitude and demeanour are suitable for retail work.

At my store the interviews go like this - first you will be told a bit about the company and the role of an xmas advisor followed by an ice breaker type exercise something along the lines of talk to your neighbour for five minutes and report back to the group. Then there will be a couple of tests asking you to do things like match catalogue numbers and put them in order. The manager may ask some questions e.g. give an example of great customer service. This is finally followed by the dreaded team work activity which varies between stores but could be things like design a super hero, come up with a radio jingle or do a mock weather/news report based around argos. It doesn’t matter if what you produce is utter rubbish as long as you show you worked well within the group and took part in the exercise.

@kazmack - Thanks for that help. I will goand hand in my application tomorrow then.

@Jess- I guess that makes sense as they don't really want to pay much =[

@Saf - Thanks a lot, that was a lot of help. Appreciate it!!! I just hope i atleast get shortlisted or something but i doubt it as i have been rejected for not having experience compared to others but i guess the fact this is for xmas Temps...might help me =]

saf87 did you work at the same store as me????????????? lol
anon - dont bother putting in a cv - if they want to know more they will ask you. saf87 is right about interview process - it was a bit surreal but i do see where argos was coming from. word of advice here - dont hang back during the interview but dont be domineering either. argos want to see friendly people who are interested in others (first five minutes get as much personal info off the other guy as you can) then i believe its put cat nos in numerical order. do it fast then check carefully! as to the other bit - we did the radio jingle - think of a xmas carol then do a job advert for argos. I think this bit is what got me the job - the team i was in all sat looking blank - so i asked them whats fave carol - we agreed on one then we all gave a one liner about working for argos. then when called upon to perform we all sang quietly in background as each person recited his/her line. this was at my suggestion and i qued everone in! but I am much older than others and was used to chairing meetings. i think the purpose of the exercise to see how a person worked in a team and for any possible team leaders.
dont worry about being school leaver or not having retail experience. - there were lots at the store i worked at and if you read my earlier post - many of the permanent staff started as xmas temps having just left school or previously worked as xmas temps.

When did you apply for the boots job and how long did it take for them to get back to you about an assessment.

I apply about 2 days ago so I just wonder how long the application process was and what does the assessment involve.
