How many hours could I work max and when could I start?

The maximum hours are 17.5 hours a week, but it depends on what type of store it is you apply to:

If you apply to a retail park or late opening store (until 8pm or later) then you can opt to work on the late shift and do your 17.5 hours over 5 days Monday - Friday.

If you apply to a town centre/shopping centre store that only opens until 5:30/6:00, or on a retail park if you don't want to work the late shift then you will probably have to work 17.5 hours over 5 days Monday - Saturday (you would get a day off during the week if you had to work Saturday, and it wouldn't be every Saturday you work).

You need to get an application form from your local store, hand it back in at the store you want to work at, (hopefully) get on an assessment and if you're successful they will notify you. The earliest intake at my store is the last week of September though the last intake is the first week of November, I have no idea on when you would start between that time I'm afraid!

This is only what OUR store does, some follow the same or a similar pattern, just ask when you pick an app up.
    Hope this helps!

Where do I find the application forms? Do I need to go to my local argos? Thanks.

Just pop into your local store, they will probably be on the Collection Desk or near Customer Services in a stack so just pick up as many as you need!

They will probably put theem online at some point at www.argoscareers.com but as of yet only the old app forms are online.

Hi, you would need to ask the store you are applying to.
I know our store doesn't do that, but another store in my town the manager has some of his part time staff doing 17.5 hours over 3 days.

If you were looking for 2 days only you should consider weekend vacancies (7 hours).

I've had a couple of PMs from people asking what kind of roles would be involved (because Argos is unique compared to shops with stock on the salesfloor) so i'll give you a runthrough:

    CORE DEPARTMENTS
Tills - processing sales, checking stock at other stores, home delivery orders with customers. Training is provided and usually there is a till supervisor who is an experienced/senior cashier who will deal with any problems.

Collection - accepting the goods from the stockroom, monitoring which orders are ready to go and using the call forward system (Order Number 321, to your collection point please!) and showing stock to customers who want to look at an item before purchasing.

Stockroom - picking stock for customers' orders (using ladders if necessary), keeping the stockroom tidy, putting stock away (delivery, customer returns etc.) Full health & safety & handling training provided at your induction. This is not a light role, it varies from picking Nintendo Wiis to 42" TV's and mini wardrobes!

    EXTRA DEPARTMENTS
Jewellery - manning the jewellery counter, helping customers to find an ideal item, filling up displays, keeping the jewellery dept and stockroom tidy. Ongoing training provided.

Customer Services - Dealing with customer returns/refunds/exchanges/repairs, customer queries etc. Temps don't usually get trained on this department as it can be run by the permanent staff but if it's a smaller store they may need extra hands!

Salesfloor - being a presence on the shopfloor for customers who may need help, keeping the salesfloor tidy, monitoring the queue for the tills and helping customers use the QuickPay kiosks.

The job usually entails doing all or most of these rolls, i.e. we don't just hire cashiers or stockroom staff, you get to do a bit of everything :D

Everyone does stockroom and collection, and most do tills & salesfloor.
Quite a few do jewellery (but usually only female staff do that); it depends on your intake/the date you start.

Hope this makes it easier for everyone :rotfl:

Argos Direct is recruiting for temporary call centre staff (and I hear they have excellent Team Leaders there too)

Not me sorry - my team were ordertakers and would get the evil eye if they went over the call time SLA, you'd see it in their face when they had a dithering old lady calling and flicking through the catalogue whilst on the phone to them. I'm off at the moment - due to go back in 6 weeks to look after the Christmas Temps

hi i applied to argos for xmas temp job 3 years ago. i turned up for interview/assessment and was convinced i wouldnt get job (i was 52 at time) as ALL the others were at least half my age. but at the strangest interview i have ever had well - i wont go into it now - i must have done quite well - cos i got the job!
i enjoyed my time with argos - they are fair employers - not the best i have had that honour goes to Wilkinsons - but they kept me on well into January to help with Sales and then said they were reluctant to let me go but no permanent vacancies available.
so if youre thinking of applying - go for it!
    good luck!
