I dont know either. When I spoke to them I said I never use this card outside my house - and I only use it on secure sites on line with good companies. Bloke said that sometimes it was temp employees selling the details of your card but he also said that there is a program they sometimes use which randomly creates card nos and goes through millions seeing if one clicks. Thats the point - how come these companies didnt ask name and address details when people used the card? He also said that when they see a smallish O2 purchase or i-tune purchase come up, thats usually an indication of a fraud.
  • Just had a £30 payment for O2 phone services. I have stopped the card and have informed O2 so that they could put a bar on the phone.

I am posting this to ensure that anybody who has this done to them informs O2 so that these people do not benefit from the scam.

O2 confirmed that to make a top up the person is asked certain security questions: house number and post code so they do need an address as well as the number.

By the way this credit card is never used at petrol stations or for paypal.

It pays to find time to check statements!

Just checked my online and there you go, bloody £30 O2 prepay!

On the phone to my CC company right now. The only transaction I have done was I bought an O2 PAYG mobile phone a couple of weeks ago, other than that I don't suspect any other company.

O2 is a known culprit for these credit card scams - they should be well booted for not sorting their security. Please add your complaint to watchdog.

  • I checked my online banking this morning to find too that I had had £30.00 taken out of my account for the same O2 Prepay Slough... again I am not with O2. I did a search on Google and found that this was a fraud scam. I called HSBC who said they would open a dispute case for me but they said there was no need to cancel my card at this stage. 15mins later I refresh my internet banking to find another £30.00 has been taken out but this time with Orange Darlington. Called back the bank who then agreed to cancel my card and will look into the matter for me. Have to say I was not that impressed with their customer services! I feel both Orange and O2 need to be really clamping down on this. Judging from the amount of people that have replied on here and other sites that came up when I conducted my Google search it's obviously a regular occurence.

I cant believe they didnt cancel the card immediately! My bank cancelled when they saw a £1.52 debit for i-tunes. What on earth yours was doing opening a "dispute" case when they should have passed it to their fraud department I dont know.

Please add your complaint to watchdog link.

Why Has Nobody Spoke To O2 About It?

When we contacted 02 they said we needed to speak to their fraud dept - never get an answer from this number so the phone won't have been blocked.

Halifax were great got refund quickly and lots of communication.

Will also send story to watchdog like others on here :)
