So, it's windy and you're smoking. What the f*** do you think is going to happen to your smoke? You think that's just going to drop harmlessly downwards? Or be transported into the strange parallel dimension that lost socks go to? That though process is completely lost on me.

As always it's an inconsiderate few (on both sides of the discussion) that set up such opposing sides there can be no agreement. I don't smoke and never have, however right through my twenties my entire extended social group smoked. My partner still smokes.

I have - by choice - spent many a weekend in smoky clubs, pubs and house parties and for a while I worked as a barmaid. As long as those around me didn't smoke right in my face there was no issue, and the vast majority did not. When the ruling for no smoking at the bar came into force most of our customers would only approach the bar with a fag in hand if they simply forgot. Most apologised and moved away when politely reminded.

My bugbear is people smoking at bus stops, or in the middle of the footpath that takes me from the bus stop to my place of work (NHS!). These are places I cannot avoid going, and I fail to see why I should have to move out of the way of someone who is breaking legislation to smoke. These smokers seem to make no effort to move to one side when I come towards them, it's completely unnecessary and just plain rude.

    Fire Fox,

I know exactly what you mean. Attempting to avoid smokers whilst going about my daily life (shopping, walking to/from work etc) is really annoying.

I'd like to walk around without stinking of filthy smoke. I feel physically sick when I encounter a lot of smokers - as some of them smell disgusting - and the thought of smelling anything like them freaks me out!

how can anyone outside smell of filthy smoke just walking past a smoker? walk a bit further away from them if youre worried about it that much.

the non-smokers wont be happy until us smokers are all lined up and shot.

my mum smokes, actually shes given up for 3 weeks now due to dental work and offloaded her fags onto me. saves me some money, cheers mum!

but she smoked indoors and the smell was evil. i dont smoke indoors. when we went away recently we took our travelcot for boris that had been stored in her spare room and it absolutely stank vile of stale smoke.

my oh is an ex-smoker yet he dont moan about it like some of you do.

i do not appreciate snide comments or even shouts from people telling me what a disgusting habit it is because its my choice and im not breaking any laws.

the last being a woman who came out of her flats as i walked past about 6 meters away having a fag and shouted at me what a disgusting human being i was. if i was standing outside her door then fair enough, but dont you dare have a pop at me when im walking by, no where near your door.

she got the usual reply of how i found her face offensive.

dont start on me at 7.15 in the morning. i dont do mornings.

if i was really evil, now i know where she lives, i would have saved up all my fag buts and emptied them on her doorstep.

there is far worse in this world than smoking.

im off not to find something for a torniquet and to load my needle.

Smoke clings - especially to hair/clothes. Thus walking behind/in the vicinity of a smoker can result in having an unfavourable smell about your person.

No thanks - keep your stench to yourself.

What about my wifes rights to enjoy a drink without choking to death because someone has lit a cig up near her? Or do the rights of people with lung problems not count as much if they didnt fight in a war?

Your wifes rights have been dealt with, by the no smoking laws, we are now outside smoking so i see this statement as pointless
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

It astounds me how black and white people believe life is. Ever heard of give and take, any of you? Although it's a complete cliche, we have free will in this country, which is something to celebrate. People choose to smoke, or not smoke. If we all had a bit more respect for everyone, life would be lots easier.
