I was in spain having a nice meal untill someone lit up next to me at another table, disgusting

then you must have been in a 'Smoking' restaurant/bar and a sign would have stated so.So your own fault not the smokers

Spain actually went the right way about it,giving the owners the choice, smoking or not(up to 100sqm) but they must display a sign stating which( permite fumar/no fumar),over that size they have a separate smoking area wether indoors or not is up to the owners, again clearly signed,

the brits come to Spain on holiday and then try to tell US how to live,

this is by far the fairest system to ALL so if you do not like it do not come

I am still very annoyed that most of the anti mob have not posterdBUT here we go again, my friend who spent his life in the 2nd world war fighting for this country can no longer have his little bit of life,ie,coming down thye pub for a pint and smoke, how does that make you eejits feel, his friends died for us BUT you deny him his right for a smoke and a pint HOPE YOU ARE ALL HAPPY

Doing his service for the country is not an open licence to make the people that he fought for miserable. Where else do you take that arguement to? That's one of the most stupid pro-smoking arguements I've ever read.

Yes.

Holiday in France a couple of years ago. Lovely country but I wouldn't go there again. We booked a table. I asked (in French, very proudly) for a non-smoking table. We were told essentially "pot luck". So when we're eating we're getting other people's smoke coming across our food.

So I won't go to that country again until they sort out their smoking laws.

Does that in any way go toward answering "the question"?

I have to say, most of the non-smokers I know are of the opinion 'it's up to you if you do it, just don't bloody do it near me!', which is what most of the smokers on this thread seem to be overlooking.
Yes, that's it entirely.

Bloody annoys me that in recent years smokers have become modern day lepers.
Actually I don't think we've quite got that far yet. Sadly.

Bloody hypocrites....if you dont like me smoking next too you bloody well walk away.
But that is my point. I can choose to not go into a set smoking area. The problem is walking down the street and not seeing the b@st@rd smoker in front of me lighting up because they're hunched over and only knowing about it when I get a faceful. Or people standing around doorways. Or people that inhale their smoke, then turn away from their friends to exhale it... into my face. Or those that smoke around children or vulnerable adults that can't walk away.

It's not hypocrisy, it's simple thoughtlessness on the part of the b@st@rd smokers.

Last summer, I was demonstrating Kempo at Bedford River Festival. We're athletes. We were out of breath at times. But still the b@st@rd smokers stopped to watch, so we frequently took in their fumes. We weren't in a position to walk away - they came to us not the other way around. Often the case.

Like many other people have said (and the smokers on here seem to have ignored), nobody has a problem with you actually smoking. It's the inconsiderate attitude of smokers who want to force it onto other people.

The people who b*tch about 'not being able to go to a pub cos I can't smoke any more and it ruins my life' never seemed to care when they were smoking and ruining my night by making me smell like sh*t, giving me a croaky voice and making it hard to see. Smokers stopped me going out, because they made pubs intolerable. Now a barrier to non-smoker's enjoyment of pubs has been removed, yet smokers are still welcome in designated areas, and can still DRINK indoors, but that's not good enough for them.

Again, spot on. Finally some of the anti-smoking brigade are speaking up. Thanks, guys.

We could do this round and round all day, fact is Smokers DONT blow smoke in a NON smokers face, I have neither witnessed it nor had it done to me.
Yes, they do. It's happened to me many times. I've also had my hand burned by cigarettes. One day someone will catch me off-guard and a cigarette will pass by my face a bit too quickly... then I'll most likely break the wrist of the person holding it, purely in self defence. See - smoking is bad for your health :p

Sort out their smoking laws??

What the hell has it got to do with you what laws they have,it is their country,BUT, they will probably be glad not to have an anti smoking brit in their bar telling them how to live their lives

it is not a 'pro' smoking argument,it is an example of how the holier than thou non smokers have affected his life, why do they not let us have an INDOOR smoking area so he does not have to go outside in the cold BUT then even if he does you lot whinge
