The main problem with an indoor smoking area is, I would assume, trying to organise how to work the legislation when the point of not smoking indoors is to protect workers rights, workers who in some cases may not be able to get another job.

Dont get me wrong, I am 100% behind getting indoor smoking areas, but I cant see it working with the stance of protecting workers that the government have used.

Fairly easy fix this, you have to install good ventilation/filtering systems

I personally do not like people smoking in restaurants and would never do so myself, but and i will put it in bold the word is COMPROMISE

It astounds me how black and white people believe life is. Ever heard of give and take, any of you? Although it's a complete cliche, we have free will in this country, which is something to celebrate. People choose to smoke, or not smoke. If we all had a bit more respect for everyone, life would be lots easier.

Not a hope. Remember the 'fume cupboards' you had in the school labs? That's the level of ventilation required to reduce the risk of smoke inhalation to acceptable levels.

If smokers are a bit miffed about smoking outside, they're going to be even more miffed about being crammed into a glass cupboard in the corner of the pub......

it is not a 'pro' smoking argument,it is an example of how the holier than thou non smokers have affected his life, why do they not let us have an INDOOR smoking area so he does not have to go outside in the cold BUT then even if he does you lot whinge
As I keep saying, I'm all for it. When the b@st@rd smokers are out in the cold, they're still affecting is by congregating around the doors that we're trying to pass through. It's ironic that your point is that he fought to protect our rights as a nation yet my perspective (which I concede will be different to yours) is that he's compromising my rights to not be smoked around.

In principle I agree. But how do you compromise?

The path to the dark side, that is :D

Again, in principle I agree. Where that fails is smokers
- blowing smoke in my face
- gathering around doorways so that I can't enter without passing through it
- etc

It seems to me that (on here at least) most of the non-smokers are respecting the b@st@rd smokers' rights, but the b@st@rd smokers arn't respecting the non-smokers. I have no choice about not-smoking as I get smoked around. It's the b@st@rd smokers that don't have the respect (acknowledging that there are individuals for whom this doesn't apply). This is my point.

Again, how would the b@st@rd smokers feel if I were to drop my kecks in public and flatulate in their faces? What's the difference?

Theres nothing more annoying that an ex-smoker whingeing about other people who smoke.

and theres nowt worse than that coupled with the fact they thin us smokers delibertaely make the smoke pass them. we cannot control the weather or the way the wind blows so !!!! off. im sure you all have habits id find annoying but i wouldnt come on here and moan about it. [well depends lol]
There's someone in my head, but it's not me

Whereas I take your pun on board, this is a fair point. This is a very aggressive thread (I'm probably as guilty as anyone, though I'm trying to be diplomatic). Though it seems to me that most of the aggression and heated (pun not intended) debate from the direction of the pro-smokers.
