. Bottom line is ( pun intended ), it's legal! Get over it! Keep an eye out for smokers and avoid them.
When smoking indoors was still allowed, I had one guy who kept complaining about smoking in our tearoom at work. We already had extractor fans, but still he was not happy. As his line manager, i passed his complaints on and, eventually, the tearoom was partitioned off to give 2 seperate areas, both of which still had extractor fans. The room was divided equally in 2 areas, but the non-smoking side never had more than 2 or 3 people use it. The smoking area usually had around 15 - 25 people using it at breaks, but this was a mix of smokers and non-smokers, the latter by choice. One of them said that the chat was better because the smokers didn't have as long to live, so they had to make the best of their breaks .
The final result was that the non-smokers became bored on their own and joined the smokers for their breaks, even the most vehement of complainers .
It is interesting that car pollution has been mentioned here, the gases produced from both are similar, mainly benzene and carbon monoxide, but of course, greater quantities are produced by cars.0 -

What about my wifes rights to enjoy a drink without choking to death because someone has lit a cig up near her? Or do the rights of people with lung problems not count as much if they didnt fight in a war?
Whats stopping your friend from having a pint and then having a smoke in the sheltered beer garden/smokers area?
F*cks sake, I'm all for smokers rights, even as a former smoker (quit 5 years ago), but its about the rights of everybody not just the smokers. THATS the selfish atitude that started this thread off, that certain smokers dont think about anything but their own gratification (stress on certain, most of the smokers I know are top notch people who do care and who do check if they can smoke before lighting up. In fact only 1 doesnt.).The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20 -

Not all Pubs/ work premises have a beer garden or sheltered smoking area. That is why they have to stand outside the front door.
Sad, but that is how it is. As an occasional smoker even I have stopped going to the Pub as much as I did because it is not worth the hassle of popping outdoors. So another traditional way of life ( the British pub ) is in decline. Even non smokers do not seem to use Pubs much. Could be the price of a pint. But since the Ban came in you hear of more and more Landlords complaining that the Smoking Ban has not helped their business as it seems to have driven even non smokers away.
If people are segregated you will start to have problems.0 -

Yep and that sucks for them, I fully sympathise and wont complain under those reasons. One of my favorite pubs hasnt got a beer garden so I dont complain, another does and so I do.

I have to say, most of the non-smokers I know are of the opinion 'it's up to you if you do it, just don't bloody do it near me!', which is what most of the smokers on this thread seem to be overlooking. Yes, it is your 'right' to smoke (apparently - I'd say it's more of a priviledge). No, it is not your right to force others to smoke. Just because you think it's not dangerous, or disgusting, or smelly, or unpleasant, or socially unacceptable doesn't mean others feel the same way. Personally I don't give a monkeys if I'm 'infringing on your rights to have a cigarette' by 'forcing you to smoke outside'. You're infringing on my rights to not inhale tar and nicotine. :mad:0

Good god man dont mention cars produce more harmful gasses than smokers the do-gooders will lynch you.
Bloody annoys me that in recent years smokers have become modern day lepers.
These bleeding heart do-gooders who complain so loudly about those of us who smoke and bang on how were killing them with are disgusting choice too smoke....yet these same people happily drive around in cars/take trips over seas in planes/happily pollute the atmosphere with coal fires ect ect ect.
Bloody hypocrites....if you dont like me smoking next too you bloody well walk away.:mad:0 -
Why are we assuming that everyone who smokes doesn't drive?0
