Been together for 4 1/2 years. Bought the house together after 2 years.

We're not married or engaged. I'd quite like to be, but have seen enough marriages and relationships fail or work in my 31 years on the planet to know that a wedding will not change the relationship. If it works, it will work regardless of whether you are married or not. And vice versa - if the relationship is doomed to fail, it will fail regardless.

My OH is not that bothered either way - I think he thinks it won't make a blind bit of difference to our relationship except my name and our bank balance! He is 100% committed to me and I to him. We have made our plans for 10, 20 years down the line and know that we will be together come what may.

We may get hitched at some point in the future on a beach somewhere but I'm not going to throw the baby out with the bathwater and leave him because he's not bothered. I'd be throwing away the greatest relationship that I've ever had and are ever likely to have.

Moved in with my now-husband within six months, but due to us being skint students working our way up through a series of rubbish jobs and even more rubbish houses, we didn't get engaged till we'd been together six years - and had a good home, car and jobs. We booked the day within six weeks of engagement and were married on the 4th July this year :) We planned to have babies straight away but I've just been promoted, so we're leaving it a bit so I don't p*ss off the company and so we can have some married time (and another holiday I hope!)

I never minded waiting those six years - I love my husband as much as I always did, we had a fabulous wedding day and it was well worth the wait :)

    Ladies - in waiting

Can I ask, why havent you just proposed?

    I did :)
Cos ever since I can remember I've always thought my man would get down on one knee and ask me. I gave birth to our daughter the least he can do is ask me to marry him!
Im stubborn too, so if he wont ask me, we dont get married.
ailuro2 I would love to get married how you did too. I dont want a huge wedding with everyone there looking at me. Id love a quiet beach wedding with just my daughter as a guest! I'll keep dreaming tho, lol.

Im 24 shortly and I feel far too young to get married yet, so I can completely understand his viewpoint. People are ready at different stages of their life though and whatever works for them is fine.

I don't really see what the issue is though. Presuming your relationship is amazing, which Im presuming otherwise you wouldn't want to get married, would you really want to end it just because he isn't proposing?

we felt our daughter was too young for Vegas, she was only 2.

While the ceremony only lasted 7 minutes, it did feel very special and was a lot more sincere than I'd have imagined it beforehand.

However, it was somewhat tailored to our wishes, we could have had a a ceremony with no mention of God,walked up the aisle separately or together and the 'obey' stuff wasn't even mentioned, they just don't do it like that over there. It's love, honour and cherish, which is so much nicer.:D

If we hadn't quit smoking we'd have never have got to the States to get married, so I'm glad we stopped or I'd still be a Miss.:D

DH first proposed after about 3 months, I said 'ask me again in 6 months'..which he did and I said 'yes'.. Married 2 years later and have just celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary:beer:
We met in the first week at uni (we were 18 & 19) and had gone around in a big group for the first few weeks. I sensed he was going to ask me out on a proper date, alone, after about a month..and i just knew that if I said 'yes', we would be married. I can't explain why I knew, I just did.
  • Got engaged after knowing one another for 2 weeks:D Yes, we are still married 15+ years later.
