Useless CPW/ O2 minutes checking system

All service providers bill line rental a month in advance. The first bill will be line rental for a part month plus the full price for the following month. The duration of the part month depends on the service provider and the date you were connected in relation to their billing cycle.
The cost of the part month is calculated pro-rata and as a result your monthly allowance for that period will also be pro-rata.
Many people are caught out by this. After connection they make calls thinking they are well within their allowance not realising that for the first month the allowance will be considerably less. This is why I always recommend calling customer services immediately after being connected to establish:
a) date of bill
b) date monthly allowance runs until
c) amount of allowance allocated for the part month
Hope this is useful.
Cheers

3 don't do it. I was with 3 before, they never did it. They just billed for 1st month, thats it. Thats how it should be done.0 -
i took my contract directly from o2 and even they are not up to date. i checked with the costomer service and they say the only way to check your balance min. is thru net or thru GPRS by going thru the o2 site....both means the same as u need to go thru the o2 site and they update in days.
i guess only 3 gives u accurate bal. moreover someone on the post did suggest to reset the counters on the handset and atleast u can have some sort of accurate information.sale0 -

but even with directly 02, surely they dont update your billing info 48 hours later?
resetting counters etc. on the phone still doenst provide accurate info because if you access your voice mail (which is free on o2) then it doesnt show anything about how many minutes you have left. It would just show total dialled numbers (in minutes)0 -

Awful CPW/O2
I use both systems on both contracts and O2's direct billing systems is also 2 days outdated. They claim it is 24 hours but it is not really.
Some other questions I can answer (might have been answered above)
No you can NOT sign for O2's direct online billing if you are CPW customer. I tried and it just didnt worked.
As of right now CPW billing is showing last call recorded of 24 April and so is O2's direct billing so both updated at same time. Yes its lame but not one is better than other and there is no point in switching b/w these two.
If thats the only issue then I would recommend Three network, updated to last call. But you would NOT have inclusive calls to 0844/0845/0870.i joined O2 via CPW on 12 months half price contractbut if i join online billing on CPW i wont get the paper bill so how you suppose to get your cashbak?
There T & C said and I confirmed while I was signing for online /itemised billing that you can send print of your online bill.
All in all best way is to reset your mobile timer.
Hope that helps.0 -
Hi
i bought w800i from CPW on o2
its unlocked and unbranded
do i need to get any settings from o2 website?
how do you set mobile timer?
sorry not very technical minded!
thank youHonesty is the best policy doesn't matter which web site
you are on!
if i had known then what i know now!
a bargain is only a bargain if you really need it!0 -
Hope its all setup already, if not just browse the last icon in the menu "O2" and then select "get settings", thats it you will receive settings with instructions.
Dont have the phone myself but it must be in "Calls" section. You know where you get missed calls and received calls details there are call timers. There will be an option to reset these timers. Just reset those on your first billing day.0 -

Boy am I glad I got my O2 contract from mobileshop. I can see my billing online on the O2 website and never had a problem.
Reading the above posts are giving me the jitters. Thanks guys.0 -
I have contracts with both O2 online and CPW/O2. My latest contract (CPW) started on 20/4, with a billing date of 28/4. I expected my allowance to be roughly a quarter of the monthly tariff (200 mins and 100 texts), so 50 mins and 25 text. Perhaps, as there are double mins/texts for the first 3 months, it should be 100 mins and 50 texts?
According to the online billing sevice I have 62 mins and 200 texts!
I'm sticking to the 50/25 until the 28th and I get into a proper billing cycle.
The SE 550i has a very useful feature in it's call counter - it lists outgoing calls and total call time as 2 separate figures. The first one doesn't include voicemail calls, which are free on this tariff."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0
