Thanks guys, I don't know why they made me feel bad, I had always known I wouldn't be having lots of toys for a young baby as a lot of them are a waste, as long as they have some visual/touching things. I just suddenly thought maybe I'd got carried away with the minimalistic-ness and by now he should have some more things.0

Honeypop - Leila has a cheapish plastic play gym which she has just started to like: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3478756/c_1/1%7Ccat_14417629%7CPre-school+toys%7C14417737/Trail/searchtext%3EGYM.htm
a galt nest/doughnut thing she doesnt use
a barnaby button bouncer which she isnt particularly amused by
loads of cuddly toys which she hates
an over the door bouncer which she likes but only for short periods
and a Mummy who makes all sorts of noises and silly faces who she prefers to any other toy that she has!
There are probably some toys bought by other people which are stored away for when she's a bit older. Toys have their place in a home but sometimes people buy them to hide behind because they think that their child will somehow miss out if they dont have lots of things to play with. I only use the toys really when I need to do something like eat dinner, otherwise she lies on me/next to me and we sing/read/play row row row the boat/watch tv/ go on MSE/ blow raspberrys/play pat a cake and round and round the garden etc etc.
All I need is her (and hubby) and all she needs is me and no amount of toys can change that xxxxxxxxxxProud Mummy to Leila aged 1 whole year:j0 -
Thanks Becs. X :A
Not even gonna reply MM!!!
We do use the galt playnest but I only paid £16, with other kids around I find it very reassuring that she is laid in something rather than easily fallen on. (Ben's a little clumsy)
And go Dylan!!!!!!!!!!!!! XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXToo many children, too little time!!!0 -
I forgot to say the thing that was the reason I came here...
I got all teary at a baby group this morning and felt a right idiot. They were talking about a 'toy swap' event that's just been planned, and someone asked me if I was bringing Aarons toys that he'd outgrown. He's 11 weeks and not having any spare money really (and very small rooms), we went down the route of not having many 'toys' as such. He has a bouncy chair with toys attached, 2 playmat/gyms that he still loves, a couple of rattley toys and activity bug type things, a curly toy on the car seat, and on his cot is a mobile and some dangly colourful toys on the sides to look at and reach for.
Anyway, I kind of stuttered an answer along the lines of I don't think he's got anything he doesn't still use and he doesn't have much anyway as he's only still very young, and then a couple of other mums with babies of similar age said theirs had loads of toys they don't use anymore, there's so much for them at that age that they had loads of toys, they can't believe Aaron doesn't have 'any' (that's not what I said, I didn't say what I did and didn't have). I felt awful that he should be having more things to play with and I've probably not got enough for him and suddenly got a bit teary and wandered off to compose myself. That's so not like me, but I felt my motherly skills were criticised. I don't think it's the cost for me, perhaps more that I didn't think they needed so much as they don't play with everything anyway, and what he does have seems to keep him amused and happy.
What sorts of things did/does your babies of similar age have? I was thinking of getting some more things anyway as he approaches 3 months, will probably scour ebay and car boots though. I tend to keep out of the baby shops as a way of not spending money that we don't have, so don't really see what's 'out there' for him, and wouldn't know what was 'good' if I saw it anyway - any recommendations for something that yours have loved at that age?
There is so much out there, loud light up things needing batteries and usually used by parents as a substitute for one to one time. Baby sits all alone going 'bang bang bang' on the amazing light up drum that makes a tune everytime it's whalloped and parent watches tv. Then baby gets to a year old and it's first words are 'bam bam bam!'.
I can't actually imagine many 11 week old babies who have grown out of toys, actually I can't imagine many 11 week old babies who play with toysYes they will look at the pretty colours and squeal over the lights but at that age mummy is the toyanything else is just to pass the time while mummy has a pee.
I have the shakes because I can't remember having lunch or dinner. I did have a handful of mars planets but I don't think they count as food...
Horrible pump has been re-listed on ebay, washed properly this time, what little I got with it was dumped due to me feeling skanky using it. Medela mini electric (new) boughtPlease tell my the medela mini electric does the suck, stop, suck, stop thing and not 'suuuuuuuuuuck' constantly??
Can't list the TT one because I dropped it in spaggy bol and it's got a red stain that won't come off in milton.
Sami, I have brown high boots, no skinny jeans but a pair that will tuck into my boots anyway (skinny kick flare but the boots have buckles so you don't notice the extra material inside)I daren't try leggings due to me not wanting to look like a chubby skank.

We have a break through - I went to lift Dylans hand to massage his fingers out after his last feed, and before I even touched his hand, just lifted his arm, he opened them a little bit all by himself !! Not for long though, but its a start:D:D
But then when mummy was giving him huge cuddles for doing so well, he threw up all over my b00bies :o
Serves me right for bouncing him I guess, I just got over excited
Chris just laughed, and said to Dylan, 'even I havent put that much white stuff on mummies tits':rotfl:

Honey, Rhys doesn't have much but I don't think he needs anything more right now.. We have:-
Big things - bouncer (with mobile rather than toys, but he can't reach anyway); basic play gym (mat, arches, dangly bits), play mat (for tummy time with crinkly bits, ribbons to pull, squeakers etc) and loaned Bumbo, toy arch and swing (which he's not keen on cos it goes too fast for now).
Small things - wrist and sock rattles, small fabric rattle (from Ikea), pram toy (elephant with crinkly ears/feet and spinny rattle ball in the middle) and a couple of plastic rattle/teether things which were given to me from my godmother's granddaughter. I've only just got those rattles out yesterday/today cos Rhys has just started touching/feeling things (started with playing with the transfer on his tshirt first!).
Like Mookie said, we spend most of our time talking, singing and tickling - lots of "Where's Rhysy's smiles?!" said in a jolly happy voice in our house!(so much grammatically wrong with that sentence, I know!).
I've been having my hair cut this afternoon so it's now down and straight for a change... have been sweeping it over Rhys' face and making him smile that way ever since0
