thanks susan, we've tried giving solids mid meal according to 'babywise' book, but will see how it works giving him solid at the end...

ok fergus needs nearly 800 cals per day. He only takes 500 ish in milk. The max calories from solids we've managed to get into him is 60 cals. Hmmmmn seems quite too little, and may explain the night waking.

One website suggested a cool idea, egg yolks only scrambled, rather than yolk plus white. I'll try that tomorrow and give him 2 yolks scrambled...

Any other very high energy ideas that aren't too bulky or quickly filling?

    Thanks xxx

    Jillie,

Suitable from birth, multi-position recliner, brightly coloured toy arch, rocker rather than bouncer unless it is battery operated to bounce.

I have this one and it's rubbish, glad I didn't pay full price. The electric bouncer is rubbish as is the music, it sits far too high so useless for a small baby and it doesn't clip together, the poles just push in so it feels flimsy.

Harley is right - I have got this one :(

Jillie, we have this one: Bouncer
Aaron has loved it since birth, he looked tiny in it but is filling it out more now, the frog head cushion stopped his head lolling about when he was younger. It's a good angle so I don't feel like he will topple out (I did with some) and it's comfy enough for him to fall asleep in. The toy bar is removable so we left it off for the first few weeks and now he loves batting at the dangly things, and it has vibrate and musical switches which cut out after a while so you don't have to remember to switch the vibrate off. It is bouncy enough that with his own movements it bounces a little, plus it's able to be bounced 'by foot' when I am on the sofa and all he wants is bouncing.

However, we also have this one!!!! :j:j

Got them both second hand for about £3 each - have just washed the covers and will be setting them up tomorrow. Will be interesting to see which ones bubs like the best.

Thanks for the input girls xxxx

Weezl - Avocado, Banana? Sorry that's all I can remember from when I was weaning DD.

DD has been such a good girl today, walked 90% of the time around Cheshire Oaks, I carried her a bit towards the end and DH had her on his shoulders as well. Deliberately didn't take the pushchair as I knew it would be a zoo and I was right.

DD was asleep though before we even got out of the car park.

thanks MDW, will defo get avocado:D:A. Banana is trickier cos he'll only eat a fifth before being full, so that's alas only 20 cals!

Homemade hazlenut yoghurt looks like it's going to be an energy-filled wonder.

I'll just keep on posting my finds in case anyone else has similar concerns :)

edit: P.S. cheese looks good, but needs to be the low salt varieties: gruyere, ricotta, quark, fromage frais

Weezl, I like the chart here:
    http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/solids/solids-how.html
It is based on breastfed babies, but I'm sure the same applies to bottle fed babies?

weezl we're having the same thing with seth, i dont think he is getting enough milk or fluid but theres not a lot we can do about it cos he cant fit any more in his little belly. he has his last bottle at about 7.30, and wakes for one about 10pm, and its pot luck as to whether he sleeps through to 6am or wants a feed at 2am or 4am
i asked the HV cos i was worried about him not getting all the nutrients from his milk, but over the course of the day he is having the "prescribed" amount of bottles as it says on the box, and the HV said the best thing to do if you're really worried is to feed half milk feeds twice as often but i've not done that, as i dont think its good for setting up eating habits for the future and it would be a lot of faff! we also found that when we offered solids after a feed he would always take them, but he wouldnt be hungry for 3-4 hours afterwards which means he still isnt having as much IYSWIM?
am i right in thinking thats why the follow on milks from 6 months exist, so they get more nutrients from it when they arent having as much?

It's alledgedly got more nutrients, but no more calories, and only increases of a few random vitamins, and not what you'd expect, like iron . Do you fancy trying some of these high energy but less filling things? Fergie and seth could go on a 'big boys meal plan' together :rotfl:
