Maz, will you have any more dos to go to whilst still pregnant?

Off the top of my head, I think MFD (where are you btw missus?!) from here and Nicki and GISI from the pregnancy thread have all had to look for nice dresses whilst pregnant - think the latter two went for Isobelle Oliver or something like that. I didn't go to any dos so really I'm no use! :o

Don't forget, most dresses will get worn once then put on eBay so could well be worth a look on there :)

right.... yesterday my mw said that due to my continuos BP problems its 99% that i will have to have an epidural for delivery and will need a lots of monitoring when i go into labour (if i;m not being induced)...so i was wondering if anyone here who has had an epidural can give me an indicationof what to expect- before, during and after delivery. am trying not to google as you always get 'worst case scenarios' and i have had enough of them lol!!

I had an epidural, It was fine. Well, it didn't work 100% and fell out so had to be re-sited, but it worked well enough and I had barely any back pain afterwards, which was very short lived...I would be all up for having another one if I needed to:)

Jakesmummy, I want that chair now!! But we have 2 already (using the mamas and papas one from ebay as she likes the bumping motion and it means I don't have to carry her bumping her) but she needs padding at the sides (I'm guessing it's missing a head hugger/support).

I think Amber is having blue eyes, they have paled since birth, I assumed she would have brown as her hair is my Auburn colour (women in my family have all had auburn hair/brown eyes!).

    Great news Mel!!

Jillie, epidural is ace! I felt a bit of scratching/popping on my back (imagine someone pressing on your spine and wriggling about) afterwards my legs were dead (but I didn't realise till I had to get into stirups) could move them but it was hard work! Felt contractions but in between I felt nothing. I slept between contractions, woke up to do my bit and fell asleep again. Was really a good way to spend labour.

No problems since the one with DS1 or the spinal with DD (omg, that is the first time I have used DD except in my siggy).

I had one - I was getting contractions so often that one would be starting right as the one before was winding down because of the oxytocin. I was in horrible pain and an absolute b!tch. I was asked what clothes I wanted to labour in because I wouldn't be able to change after, and sent off for a wee. The anaesthetist turned up and asked me to sit on the edge of the bed, facing away from him, and hunch over as far as I could. (I gave him a mouthful of abuse at this point for not realising that a woman with a 41 week tummy can't hunch very far, but he took my snarling very calmly). Then he iodined all my back and then stuck a protective plastic sheet over everywhere but the important spinal area, disinfected again and gave me a local anaesthetic. Then the big needle (he said he'd show it to me after he'd finished :rotfl:) and within about three minutes the pain was bearable and kept lessening. I told the man I loved him and gave him a cookie, apologised to everyone for having been a !!!!! and sat back and smiled like a stoner.

I could still feel my legs and lower belly and could feel pressure with the contractions, but no pain.

The only thing I'd caution you about is that once the thing is in there's no signal to the brain from the bladder, so you need to be catheterised. I wasn't, and since I was also on IV fluids that's what led to Molly being in distress and the emergency section. But so long as they remember the catheter you'll be fine. I was up and walking the morning after, no problems, although I was a bit groggy and out of it till the next afternoon.

It's official, me and Keira are lazy. 11:30am we woke up! This is what happens when we have nowhere to go!! I'm going to start setting an alarm, otherwise we could snooze forever. Mind you once she starts nursery I'm hoping she plegs herself out and goes to bed earlier, she is staying up WAY too late, and is refusing to sleep in her bed also....

She's blaming it on her "blood finger" she will not stop going on about it, and is using it as an excuse for everything!

Muuuum get my juice - Get it yourself - I can't I have BLOOOOD

Keira pick up your puzzle - I can't I GOT BLOOOOOD.

I've got to nip out to Spar later, as I need electric, I also need milk, but think I'll go by lidl for that as Spar is a total uber mega rip off!

Dunno if I should go to Spar now and then do the messy house, or tidy up before I go out, hmmmm decisions. I'll tidy up the living room, and do the dishes when I come back. Fair trade!

    hi guys!!

Glam what you doing over here?? lol!!

right.... yesterday my mw said that due to my continuos BP problems its 99% that i will have to have an epidural for delivery and will need a lots of monitoring when i go into labour (if i;m not being induced)...so i was wondering if anyone here who has had an epidural can give me an indicationof what to expect- before, during and after delivery. am trying not to google as you always get 'worst case scenarios' and i have had enough of them lol!!

I had an epidural because I had pre-eclampsia, and was induced.

The getting it in bit was a bit painful. I was very worried about it, as they say you have to time it between contractions and keep still. When it came down to it, although I had about 4-5 contractions while the needle was being put in my back, I managed to stay still with no trouble.

The epidural was good, although I only had patchy coverage. I had no feeling down one side, but lots of feeling down the other.

I did get one side effect, that I was very, very itchy. It is quite rare, but very itchy! I spent more time scratching than I did pushing!

After delivery - by the time I'd attempted breastfeeding and had the baby weighed and checked, I could walk. I had a shower about an hour after delivery. I was allowed to take OH with me, didn't trust the tiny midwife to catch me if I fell!

Sorry for ramblings, hope it helps (at least a little!)

The thing I found annoying was I struggled to push because I couldn't put weight on my legs. I also couldn't use one arm, so OH had to get very involved with holding me. He was right at the business end (and kept going wow) so talk to your birthing partner to make sure they don't mind if they have to get very hands on.

OMG I'd managed to forget the catheter! :rotfl: Actually that was probably the worst part of it all lol - I hated having a catheter - probably because I connected it with being elderly and infirm having seen both my grandparents with them only 5-6 months prior to Alex being born... But it wasn't too bad to be honest I just had a bit of a mental blockage about it. I wonder if the reason Alex got distressed before the birth was to do with her squishing the catheter tube? They did say she had but I never really added the two together  They said because she was rotated slightly from where she should be then she was basically flattening it and it was kind of round the time the whole medical team decended on me... :) So guess they could be connected as they whipped her out after she started showing signs of fetal distress...

LOL she's laid in her basket next to me just doing the worlds most lazy gaaaaah-aaaaaaahhhh-aaaaahhhhh....... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh..... aaaahhhhhhh..... GAAhhhhhhhhahahhhhhhhhh.... bless her!

Yes, I didn't like the catheter. Something went wrong with it/the meds, and it didn't work! I swelled up like a balloon, they kept making me drink, and nothing came out. In the middle of the night, it all came out though, and I had to shout for the nurse as I was very nearly overflowing.
