Virgin Media: Haggle down your costs.

Please check your itemised bill: Virgin have blocked the 0844 prefix override providers I used to call Europe at 1p/min.
Without notifying the change, Virgin is now charging over 10p/min to use the same 0844 prefix.

Can anyone tell me if the Sky free broadband and weekend and evening calls for £10 is any good? Does it include BT line rental? They say it does but Virgin say not!0

Help! With Sky 1 coming back, I'm thinking of getting V+, so I rang Virgin to ask about the costs.
I spoke to a gentleman who asked me if I would be keeping the old box, but I said no, as I only have one TV, so two boxes are useless to me. He then quoted me £75 for installation and no other charges, as I already have the XL TV package.
I wanted to think about it and be sure I wanted to go ahead, so I phoned again when I had decided, and the chap I spoke to that time told me that if I didn’t keep the old box (and pay £5 a month for it), I would have to pay £99 for installation instead of £75, so I told him I wasn’t happy and would need to think some more.
The next time I called, I got a woman who told me that if I didn’t keep the old box installation would be £150!
Does anyone know who I can call to get their advertised half price installation of £75 without being forced to keep, and pay for, an old box which I don’t need or want? I’m feeling quite disgruntled about the whole business now!0 -

This is confusing... I was also thinking of going for V+ and was wondering if you can upgrade for free. Obviously not (hoping for a bit too much there!)
What I don't understand is - if you keep your old box aren't you still paying the same monthly amount and therefore just have to pay the £75 in? If so why not just keep the old box?And why dothey want to charge you more to remove it?0 -

No, they charge you an extra £5 per month when you keep the old box, and they install a second point in another room for you to use it.
They are guessing that eventually you'll start to watch some pay-per-view or something on that second set to generate a bit more income for them.
Which is why you have to pay more if you don't choose to keep the second box.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -
I phoned Virgin twice today to tell them i was thinking of leaving as i had seen better deals, the first offer i recieved was for
XL tv
L broadband
XL phone with no V+ box for £56 per month.
I said i would think about it and then called back and spoke to the retentions department who offered me the following
XL TV
L broadband
L phone ( i don't often use th phone - so that suited me)
and a V+ bo for aone off payment of £30
all this for £35 per month.
Not bad. It was simple to get as well. I'm a happy person now!0 -
I'm trying REALLY hard to get that V+ payment down to £30 before I bite. We are getting there, after a problem of inconsistent service, they've got as far as £50I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0

That made me cross, because I've been paying over £50 for the same services, so I phoned through with the 'thinking of leaving us' option, told them I wasn't happy with the price I was paying for my current package and the exceptionally helpful lady I spoke to reduced my monthly bill by over £12, volunteered the fact that I wouldn't be getting the full speed on my broadband as it currently comes through my set-top box and said she'd send someone round to fit a standalone modem.
So I chanced my arm and asked about V+, and she's put that through for me at the £75 with no extra montlhy charges and even managed to give me a Saturday installation date! :T0 -
