After reading others on this thread and the Virgin Media Retention thread, I emailed the CEO with this whole saga and they responded quite quickly, offering me £5 a month off for the next 12 months as a 'goodwill gesture' (to make it as the promised price). Well, thought I may as well accept that for another 12 months when I will re-evaluate my options...

Where do I get the CEO's email from, anyone have it?

Like everyone else on here i'm trying to get my package i have with virgin lowered.

Now i've tried the " sorry i really cant afford it" , "i would like to lower my package with you" blah blah .... but i still can't get it any lower however many times i ring.

    currently on

    Telephone Line Rental
    £11.99
    Loyalty Pack B B/ Phone/TV B
    £-19.50
    Talk Weekends
    £0.00
    Free Voicemail
    £0.00
    TV Size: X L
    £24.50
    V+ HD Box
    £0.00
    Broadband Size: M
    £20.50

They have said if i lower the package then i will lose my discount, also i will have to pay for my V+ HD box of £5 p/m. I dont mind going down to the L TV and a smaller B/B if they do 1 ( only me on a lappy ). I dont download music or films just surf.

    Any suggestions gladly appreciated :-)

Yes same probs i 've tried to lower it but to no avail - don't need Broadband Large(but they say i am a heavy downloader - not true) and they won't lower to Meduim
The TV meduim is pretty useless as i think you get them channels on a £30 freeview box?.Tesco are doing Unlimited phone/BB for £23- which means the TV medium is costing me £10 a month -or £120 per year.I'm beginning to wonder whether bundles are cost effective?
    Telephone Line Rental£11.99
    Talk Unlimited£7.95
    Phone, Bband & TV M Discount£-11.00
    Broadband Size: L£25.00
    T V Size: M£0.00
    total £33.98
  • Hi, Im trying to make my bill cheaper and if possible switch to sky for TV. I am currently on virgin for everything and have been since the gold old days of Blueyonder. At the moment I don't have the phone connected but pay line rental as apparently it's cheaper with it.

I was previously a sky customer and got a good deal in the post from sky where I can get sky half price for 12 months which would work out at £30 a month for all the channels (bar the sports ones) in HD with a sky+ HD box. The main thing im worried about is that virgin will increaese my bill if I cancel the TV too. At the moment my bill break down for virgin looks like this:

    Telephone Line Rental | £11.99
    Payment Handling Charge |£5.00
Free Voicemail |free (but cant ring it)
    TV Size: XL |£24.50
    Broadband Size: XL |£37.00
    Paper Bill Charge |£1.25
Phone, TV, B'Band XL, XXL Discount |£-18.50

    Total = £61.24 per month

After looking at thier website I cant help but feel ripped of as while on the bill it says XL broadband is £37 a month on the website if you get XL broadband by itself (without TV or phone) it costs £30 a month. While it does apparently claim I'm getting a "XXL discount" is it really a discount if im paying over the odds anyway?

Anyway was wondering what all you people think as you all seem very knowledgeable about this kind of stuff :)

    Regards Sean

Are they putting you throught to the Retentions Department? Thats the department that can offer the best discounts. If you mention you wish to cancel, its worth asking to be put through to retentions.

I would guess it was retentions - recent reports on here suggest that the normal retentions team no longer offer the best deals (in fact, nothing in most cases). It seems to be a separate retentions team that may or may not call back after you have cancelled that offers the better deal.

Still waiting for the call, tick tock ...

I posted this on another thread yesterday.

My 12 months contract has just expired so I called Virgin on Monday to see what they could do for me. I am currently on the following:-

    M+ TV
    2 x V+ boxes
    XL Telephone
    L Broadband.

They informed me that my price of £50.99 including line rental could not be imporved upon so I asked to be oput throught to cancellations.

The chap, who was very polite and helpful told me that I already was. When I explained that I had been looking around at other deals from other providers he said if I could get something better then I should take it. He even confirmd that he had put me on the 30 day notice period without me confirming that i wanted to. I thereofre left it and thought I would try again another time.

I got a call last night (Wednesday) from a chap who was equally helpful and asked what he could do to keep me. I played hard ball for a while and he left me with some options to consider. I called back today (Thursday) to see what else I could get and have now agreed the following:-

    XL TV
    2 x V+ boxes
    XL Telephone
    L Broadband

£37.19 per month fixed for 18 months. I also got a £30 credit for month 1 and a new Home Hub.

I got an email confirming the offer too.

I am pretty pleased with that.
  • That is a really good deal.

    I currently have
    2x XL TV
    2x V+ Box
    20mb BB
    Normal Telephone

    Paying £65 a month.

Ive always had a couple of deals from other companies in front of me when I phone up to cancel so when they ask why I can say "Sky is offering xxxx". You normally get the same lecture each time about broadband speeds, but it normally always does the job.
