    I don't need 50mb either but when it's cheaper than 20mb then it's a no brainer!

I have mixed feelings about Virgin, I pay £25.74 a month for my landline and broadband, and I also have a mobile phone with them. I dread looking up numbers when things go wrong. They all read from the same script and you know what's coming. I switched from a regular same amount direct debit for my mobile to a pay as you go and over the past three months, they've consistently got it wrong and cut my service because the direct debit was changed. They were still taking the money owed (only a couple of pounds instead of the regular £10), but somehow their systems didn't pick up on that. Just yesterday I had to call them again as my phone was blocked yet again, it's now a monthly occurrence! However, when my modem started playing up and I phoned to get technical support, they sent somebody out the next day and fitted a new one, so I was impressed with that. Overall, it's fine until things go wrong but I do think I could get cheaper elsewhere if I had the nerve to move everything.

    At the minute Im paying

    Telephone line rental £11.99
    Talk unlimited £7.95
    TV XL £24.50 with V+
Broadband L £25 and we have a customer discount of £12.50

grand total £56.94 a month. We had the talk unlimited as it brought the bill down a fair bit but we've been with Virgin about 7 yrs do you think theres room here for a discount or you think this is the best we're gonna get?

I when to the the "thinking of leaving" option, i started by asking how much notice do i need to give to go?

i was told 30days (i already knew this) then i was asked why was i thinking of leaving?
I told them i had problems with both boxes and although VM is a great service customer service is ...... well poo! and rather than go through my problems with someone who i can`t understand and reading out instructions from a file i would sooner leave.

I also at this stange explained i was also paying more than a new customer and think vm should look after old and new alike!

so keep it short look above and you will see the deal a got.

i did have to enter into a new 12month contract.

Just worry they may call our bluff because we dont have a BT line so we're pretty much tied to them but I suppose you have to try, lol. x

Don't worry about your bluff being called.........it takes 30 days for a cancellation to go through and you can phone up anytime during that period to 'cancel your cancellation' without commiting yourself to a new contract.

I posted this in the internet forum first but it may be of interest to people here, so:

It's possible to get deals without being 'retained'.

I get 10mg BB and line rental from Virgin on a rolling basis as I've been out of contract since May. It works out at £24.49 a month I think. Now, I could get that down a bit if I sign up for another 12 months (I think they said they'll do it for £21ish), but as I prefer to stay out of contract to keep my options open I employ a different strategy. I just phone up every 2 months or so to give notice to cancel both products.....a tip is to always be armed with the exact (lower) prices of the competitor you are switching to. They will then explain why Virgin is better, etc....then I explain that anway I can't afford the higher prices from Virgin and just repeat that whatever they say. First time I did this they gave me £5 off a month for 3 months (reducing the monthly cost to less than what it would be if I signed a new contract). Then when that expired I phoned again with the same routine and I was given a £30 CREDIT on my bill!.......the equivalent of another 6 months at £19.49.....or 3 months at £14.49. But the beauty of it is that as soon as that credit has gone through my next bill, I'll be back on the blower to get another discount. :)

So there it is.......10mg BB and phone line rental can be got for LESS than what you would pay with a new contract whilst staying happily contract-free. ;)

Realising I was paying well over the odds after my contract expired (£26.99 for Broadband L, TV M and Phone M (was free L when still in contract)) I rang up to say I was thinking of leaving.

On the Friday, the lady offered me the same package but with an upgrade to Phone L, for £25.99 (signing up for another 12 months). I said I'd think about it, and she said she'd put a note on my account. I thought about it and decided that although it wasn't brilliant, it was better than having to have a BT landline installed and having slower Broadband (ADSL only at up to 4MB in my area) and losing the handy catch-up TV.

So, the very next day (Saturday) I rang up again and said I'd like the offer. But the guy on the phone said (with no prompting!) he could do the same deal for £21.99 a month! That saves me nearly £50 over a year, simply by not accepting their offer and calling back the next day! Mad! Of course I took it straight away- though who knows, maybe it would have gone down again if I'd have rung again the next day!

They are completely mad! How can they offer me something one day but a much better deal the next? Is it just random?! How does their crazy system work? Does anyone out there work for Virgin and know what's going on?!

Having said all this, I've still had problems as they were still charging me for evening phone calls and I had to call them again to sort it out. Also, the contract they've sent me adds up to £26.99 a month rather than the promised £21.99- anyone else experienced that discrepancy? I've emailed them so will see what they say...

Phoned to cancel. No offer of any deals to keep me when I quoted the genuine offer that I have been made for Sky (friends and family deal), so looks like I am off as Sky is being installed tomorrow.
