a bit of advise please, I have the following:

10 meg broadband
xl phone (free unlimited landline calls)
discount on mobile and international calls (had this chucked in for free)
TV M - free tv package for spare bedroom.

Pay £26 and some pence a month had this deal since sept 08 (offered this midway through my cancellation peiod) rang them up and got told this was a good deal and on the current deals offered it's 33 quid.

Can I get a better deal of virgin ??

I'm on same deal with VM at moment and also looking into getting it down slightly or free upgrade as been on it ages and its not as good as it once was...

Anyone getting this on a better deal at present?

Just negotiated with Virgin media for cheaper package:
• 2 months free
• 4 months at £32
• 6 months at £42
• (average price £35ish month over year)
For:
• XL tv
• V+ box free hd etc
• 24/7 phone calls anytime
• 10mb broadband
Key bargaining chips:
• 10 year customer
• Sky bundle offer £35 month (plus box, 2mb broadband, basic phone)
• O2's 8mb broadband + anytime calls at £20/month offer
• http://broadband.o2.co.uk/telesales/homephone/broadband.jsp
• Preprared to downsize tv to freeview + (buy box for £100 tesco and still able to watch what I want)
• 18185 override option for cheaper calls anytime

My ultimate price point was £35/month - I didn't reveal this till MUCH LATER. This got me the two months free.

Hope this helps.
• I got fed up with Virgin charging too much, I was paying about £65 a month for Phone XL, Broadband L and TV S. I threatened to leave and got Phone XL, TV XL, and Broadband L for £52. I have now noticed that that the broadbnd element of my bill before discounts is £37 yet they advertise 50mb broadband for £28 a month. I think it's time to give them another ear bashing and go for either an upgrade or another price reduction. Call them and don't take no for an answer they can well afford it. All that said the one thing I can say in their favour is that the actual service has been faultless except for their Bombay \central call centre where the operators are absolutely useless, fortunately I have only had to call them three times in the last year althoughit should have only been once had it not been for their incompetence.

Can someone who recently moved from Virgin Media please advise me on the landline replacement they used.

The recommended cheapest options such as Primus require an existing BT line, so the installation cost of £125 from BT would outweigh any subsequent saving for a considerable time, even when taking into consideration the £28 Plusnet cashback.

For example, Primus plus Plusnet costs £15 for landline, calls and 8M broadband, as compared with Virgin Media's £21 for landline, calls and 10M broadband.

Thanks.

You can reduce the £124.99 cost of the BT line installation to £29.99 but you need to agree to an 18 month contract - see HERE.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Thanks Heinz.

I've just asked BT about getting a new installation in a month's time (to take account of the 30 day notice Virgin Media require). The BT customer service person said new installations take up to 2 weeks, so I should call them back in two weeks' time to book the line installation.

I'm thinking of taking the standard Unlimited Weekend Plan (£11.54 per month), and BT also confirmed that free inclusive weekend calls would count towards the 10 chargeable or inclusive calls per month needed for the special price installation.

Next to Plusnet...

Hello Heinz.

I've spoken to Primus and Plusnet, and they both offered to install the landline, at costs of £69 and £49 respectively for a 12 month contract, as compared with BT's £30 for an 18 month contract.

Are these lines exactly the same as BT lines as regards usage for calls and carrying of broadband from third parties? For example, would a Plusnet line be usable for a Primus telephone service?

Thanks.

Package

TV M+ (freeview plus sky1, living & other 18 channels)
PHone XL - 24/7 unlimited landline calls
Internet L - 10MB

Cost £37 including landline rental.

They could not offer me anything better unless I drop further my package. They state how much discount I am getting but this is more than a new customer as they pay just £20 for two of these months.

I have asked them to cancel my package now. I am hoping that they will offer me a better deal before they close my account and disconnect me.
What is the disconnection process? Would they call me with any better deals before disconnection time?

OR should I just call them back now and beg to be taken back...
I don't really want to leave them as I want a better phone deal.

Advice welcome.
