Virgin Media: Haggle down your costs.

Hello All!
Was paying £58 for their triple extra large deal (this already included a £20.95 saving), just got it down to £48.95 in my 11th month!
Here is what I get
XL Phone
XL TV (with V+)
XL Broadband (20meg)
The guy wouldn't through in caller ID so I am now paying £2 a month for that, but still works out £7 less that what I was paying.
Was that a good deal or should I of haggled a bit more?0 -
I'm getting:
Telephone Line Rental: £11
TV Large: £11.50
Broadband: Medium £20
(plus free weekend and evening calls)
Minus loyalty pack - £13.50
Minus Direct Debit fee: - £1
Which makes it £28 per month.
Should I be able to get any better?Debts: Virgin Card [STRIKE]£5,600[/STRIKE] £5,636, First Direct [STRIKE]£7,700[/STRIKE] £7,000, Halifax [STRIKE]£3,200[/STRIKE] £3,810, Halifax Clarity [STRIKE]£755[/STRIKE] £711, Tesco [STRIKE]£4,005[/STRIKE] £4,450, MNBA [STRIKE]£6,700[/STRIKE] £6,580, Loan [STRIKE]£15,834[/STRIKE] £15,218 Total: [STRIKE](45K at highest) £43,794k[/STRIKE] £43,4050 -

Just on a cost-cutting exercise at the moment and was looking where to save on phone, broadband etc and I'm hoping someone can help. At the moment, I am with Virgin and paying:
Line rental: 11.00
Talk Unlimited: 7.95
TV size L: 11.50
Broadband M: 20.00
Plus I have a loyalty discount of -£13.50
Total costs (not including additional phone charges for 0870 numbers etc): £36.95
I'm looking to get rid of the TV and just buy a freeview box - I'm not a big TV watcher - so the cost would then be £27.50 (as the loyalty discount would not be as a high - £11.50 instead).
I also saw the TalkTalk Pro deal, and decided to switch over, but now I'm a bit confused as to what to do for the best as I'm not sure it is really for me, and while they offered half price installation (instead of £59.99) I don't really want my broadband speed to be affected.
I phoned Virgin and they don't seem to be able to offer me that much of a better deal - and the package they did say they could give me at £26.94 (to match TalkTalk, though it didn't totally, as it doesn't of course include the free calls to 0870 numbers) would have meant I'd have to get rid of the TV anyway.
Also, it seemed they use the 'loyalty discount' to tell you that you are actually paying a cheaper price for broadband (have other people found this? Is this normal?).
A bit confused as to how to proceed - have only just agreed to go ahead with Talk so can cancel, but haven't yet actually negotiated anything different with Virgin or instructed them to disconnect, either.
Can anyone offer some advice? Thanks!
well, you could use saynoto 0870 to reduce your 0870 charges!0 -
Hi there, new user here. My current virgin 12 month deal ends in the next couple of weeks and I`m looking to see if i can get a better deal. This is what I currently pay:
phone line rental £11
tv xl £23
broadband L £25
total £59
Triple saving -£13
monthly bill £46
I`m thinking of trying to get more out of them for the same price (such as a 2nd box upstairs) rather than a reduction in cost.
Also , should I ring them now or wait till I`m actually out of my deal?
Cheers, lufcmad.0 -
I am paying £31.45 for
Lge BB
free TV so no major channels
free eve and weekend calls
line rental
contract up 29th may
can i get a better deal elsewhere or with virgin0 -
Hi all,
Just got an email from Virginmedia to advise that they are increasing phone line rental by £0.99 to £11.99 wef 1/4/10. I am on a contract with virginmedai; so am I correct in assuming that they cannot increase my monthly tariff or is there something in the small print ?
Thanks0 -
No, you are not correct. Everyone has had this increase from 1st April.0

Not according to the email I got. It said those on 3, 6 and 12 month deals would not be affected until the end of their deal.
Thanks for this. I will give Virginmedia a call as I still have a few months to run on my contract. I must admit that I would have been very surprised if they had changed the pricing for any pre-agreed contract as I doubt very much whether that would stand up in any legal challenge.0 -
Having read through this thread, I couldn’t resist the temptation to call my broadband and phone provider, Virgin Media, and haggle for a better deal even though I think I’m paying a reasonable price at the moment. Currently, I pay a total of £22 (incl. line rental and ebilling discount) for Broadband Medium (same speed as Broadband Large but with less perks. It’s no longer available to new customers) and Phone - Medium (unlimited free weekend calls to 01, 02 & 03 numbers).
I mentioned that Talk Talk had ‘phoned recently to inform me that the local telephone exchange had been unbundled and they offered me a broadband & ‘phone package deal for about £19 total. After a bit of discussion, the very helpful VM person offered Broadband Large and Phone Large for a total of £19.95 (or was it £19.99?) with a mention that the ‘phone line rental cost will increase by 99p in April. I accepted.
So, I’ve saved a couple of quid a month on an already decent price, got a few broadband perks such as 25 free photo prints per month and online backup and added free evening ‘phone calls to 01, 02 & 03 numbers. Can’t be bad.
Mind you, from what I’ve read here, I shouldn’t count my chickens just yet.0
