Fitzio - thanks! I've asked if I can have 10 minutes with HR today just so I can figure out exactly what I need to do...it's not TECHNICALLY the Civil Service (I just say that b/c it's easier to explain...but it is the gov't), but close enough so their operations are likely near identical. I forgot about accuring holidays too, but I probably would rather have those to actually use while at work!

EA & others...I must be one of the few people that does not find him remotely attractive? Must be something wrong with me, as I feel the same about Johnny Depp too :p

Aless - I am Scottish Govt, so although it's CS it's probably not exactly the same as England! I am using my annual leave at the moment (4 weeks) before my mat leave starts on my due date. I didn't bother with HR though for that, I just agreed that with my line manager. I have 7.5 days left to carry over so that's why I am tagging it on at the end. Although I did tell HR that although my M/L was starting on 20 September, I would be leaving the office on 21 August as agreed with line manaer, (just in case they needed to contact me). If you manager your leave locally, I think HR probably only care about the mat leave. As long as your line manager is aware that you can carry your PHs and you get it in writing!

Yeah, I had already decided to do almost the same thing (take 4 weeks AL before ML starts) and was going to ask HR if it was okay - our organisation is a bit small, so even though I will agree it with my line manager, they would definitely notice if I wasn't here for that 4 weeks! Also, they'll have to get a temp sorted while I'm away, so I'm trying to be as upfront as possible so don't leave them in the lurch. :)

Even more fun is my job will be transferring to a completely new organisation under TUPE right in the middle of my ML! Lol...no biggie for me, but I'm sure a big headache for them.

Ha ha. We transferred into CS on a TUPE transfer last year! What a nightmare. Folk in my place work shifts that are not standard and were on amazing shift allowances, and it caused no end of hassle. Worked out well for me though as the mat leave is better than the police whom we transferred from! Only problem is we have still to transfer to the govt IT network and the storage for e-mails is minute, so I spent my last week trying to sort through about 20,000 e-mails so I didn't lose them when they transferred whilst I am off. It was very stressful!!!

Ewww, DWP have sent me a letter saying i've been overpaid and they're taking £10 a week off me.

Tis highly unfair IMO cos it was from whe i was jointly claiming with the ex and it's me who has to pay it back although he would have had the overpaid moneies too! grrrrrr i hate him even more today, he rang this morn and i hung up as soon as i heard his voice.

nanc - glad you got it sorted, yay!

Fitzio - yeah, it kinda makes me glad I won't be around during the transfer, hehe. I mean, I'm kinda annoyed b/c it's setting up a brand new organisation and I could really go to town with revising my role, etc., but then again I get to avoid all the logistical headaches!!

Can you phone them and try to get them to reduce this down?
It does seem unfair when it was a joint claim unfortunately its easier to re-coup the money from you cos you are still claiming :-(

Defo worth giving them a wee phone tho
