I haven't read all the thread but I'm surprised the lady next door hasn't sensed your father's discomfort and covered up a little.

On the other hand, to be honest, I think your dad should realise that she's not embarrassed at all so why should he be? He should be enjoying the view - and perhaps if he makes it obvious then she'll decide it's time to put them away.
  • That's not effective. That's bullying. She's in her own garden minding her own business. How dare a man make disgusting comments to her? How is that helping matters? Telling her he's embarrassed is one thing, being 'smutty' is quite another.

But IF she knows she is embarrassing this elderly gentleman then her behaviour is bullying too.

Most ladies wouldn't behave as she is doing, if not because they are embarrassed then because it would embarrass others. I mean you might sunbathe topless on the beach but would you go to a beach bar and order a drink at the bar without putting your top on?

Who I am is not important. What I do is.

I think we've established that most of us ladies keep our assets tucked away in public, unless we're in an appropriate setting. But I'd say there was a sliding scale rather than a fixed point of what was 'acceptable' or even 'normal'.

I never have my bra straps intentionally on display, and I don't flash my midriff, and as for the top of a thong -:eek::eek: So I am daily embarrassed by what some women are prepared to put on display, and wonder where my boys can safely look. (Remember, it's the face you should be trying to remember lads!)

And what we've got no further with is whether this lady realises she's causing embarrassment.

So at the risk of sounding like a cracked record, someone needs to talk to her, at which point she may decide to cover up or she may not.

Exactly!!! She is entitled to be topless in her own garden, but leaning over the fence to talk to your elderly neighbour - surely most people would have the sense (and sensitivity) to realise that this would make the elderly neighbour uncomfortable???

Same here, the thong peeping out is just the worst, ugh!

Who said she was leaning over the fence? All I have read is that she walks about her garden. IMO you would have to be intentionally looking to let this annoy you.

OK, not leaning but walking up and down and saying hello when he clearly has his head turned the other way i.e. seeking his attention. With her top off. Not good form at all.

We only have the OP's second hand account of what happened. Its possible that what actually happened was perhaps that the OP's father was looking over and the neighbour felt she had to say hello.
