I actually agree with those who suggest inviting round a few other men who might make some smutty comments when she appears, that may work better than a polite letter or anything else - and it's not against the law. Crude but effective.

OP, I sympathise with your dad. The poor man shouldn't have to be subjected to something like that, his neighbour is a selfish exhibitionist and an attention seeker. I'm sure it is very distressing for him and putting him off his garden, which is a haven for many people.

Let's be honest though...there isn't that many women that look good topless anyway.

I would've thought the majority that come here can't go topless without tripping over them anyway :T

You're looking at the wrong ladies Woody. Although I do agree, at 35 one shouldn't be oiking their love pillows around the garden in front of elderly gentlemen.
  • Don't know what the problem is. Does any straight bloke close his eyes at The Sun Page 3 girl out of embarassment/respect? No chance!

    1. The neighbour is happily displaying her assets;
    2. Dad is getting a free show.

Your dad may be embarrassed, but I bet it hasn't stopped him from having a crafty look every now and again ;). IMO if she is happy for you to see her with her bazookas out, sod the embarrasment: keep looking!

To be serious for a moment. I'm quite sure that having seen her a few times he wont even notice her. If you don't believe that ask any woman who's lived with a man for over a year.

That's not effective. That's bullying. She's in her own garden minding her own business. How dare a man make disgusting comments to her? How is that helping matters? Telling her he's embarrassed is one thing, being 'smutty' is quite another.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

I didn't mean that they should shout across the fence at her, they should only speak if spoken to. Perhaps the word 'smutty' was unfortunate, sorry.

If she comes over and talks to them with her top off and they make a few comments to let her know it's odd to be doing so, maybe it will make her see how uncomfortable the OP's dad feels. If she isn't comfortable coming over with other men there, why would she do it when it's just the OP's dad? She sounds like a nightmare.

Although I don't entirely agree with this comment, it actually had me in stitches. :rotfl:

On topic, I can see how this would make the OP's father uncomfortable and although it's easy to suggest sending a letter or talking over the fence, I'm not entirely sure I could ask someone so blatantly to cover themselves up without being quite embarrassed myself.

I am more with the trains of thought that suggest planting something to cover the gap.

You never know, she might get bored if she has no-one to watch her!

I'm pretty sure my neighbours only fight when i'm in earshot!

  • OK so she has a right to do what she is doing, I doubt a quiet word will suffice "i.e. pop a T shirt on if needing to go to the bottom of the garden" so dear old dad will have to do something.

Just put up some cheap wires along the bottom 100 ft linked in with the metal spikes and grow something quick along it. Look on the green fingered site for ideas, but honeysuckle, ivy, etc. are perennial and should do the trick. Planted at the end of this summer, it should be giving a fair covering by spring, enough to have to make an effort to "look" if someone wanted to see something. It will thicken up over time. Dad's a gardener, so should be quite capable of doing something.

    Then - forget about it
