Thanks for posting your report, it was interesting to read. Would be interested to know how it faired when being driven by just one person. The extra person, I guess, would significantly reduce it's mileage?

Ditto, is obviously going to be nowhere near as fast / travel as far with two people sat on the thing plus luggage.
  • I've also heard that the batteries take a few charge/discharge cycles to get working but I certainly wouldn't expect 40 miles even then. I can see a possible problem that we don't know when these batteries left the factory and they probably haven't had a maintenance charge at any point.

My commute is about 14 miles round trip with a weight of about 11 stone so in a way I find your post slightly encouraging.

A big thanks for keeping us updated; how was the speed (when batteries were ok that is :)) and did you feel menaced by cars travelling faster?

    Thanks,

    Dave.

I have to admit I did think the 40 miles claimed was very optimistic, a 1500w motor at 48volts is 30amps on a 38ah battery it is only going to last 1hr. Luckily for me I only need to cover 15miles round trip for work. But I think the first time I take to work I will pack my charger.

What did your speedo show as max speed ?

reaching 45mph easily, sometime even 50mph but as you mentioned, it doesnt feel like it, maximum speed of 28mph on TOMTOM (PDA).

It does feel SCARY specially when a 50 foots truck goes passing you. If the truck driver doesnt see me ( small ) or miss calculating then i'll be meeting Jacko.:p

    All,

We sell these type of bikes and like anything you pay for what you get. Our bikes are tried and tested and ranked very highly in a recent test. The Times test bench is here and for people looking to buy it is a very good article.

These bikes are currently doing very well for numerous reasons mainly the cost of running them but if you have one that breaks down every 5 minutes and doesn't get you from A - B it isn't cheap at all. They are very eco friendly compared with other vehicles and motorbikes but not as eco frindly as a push bike!

I am not here to sell my bikes so they won't be mentioned but anyone buying please do not buy anything unless from a company who can fully guarantee and are fully backed by insurance.

It is easy to insure these bikes personally through various sources and again I will not ramp any company who are affiliated. Just google and you can find.

Within 2 years evry town centre throughout the Uk will have electrical charging points for such vehicles like London has now so don't dismiss them as they are the future.

    Many Thanks
  • don't dismiss them as they are the future

I hope they will be out-dated very quickly with better technology. I still personally think gas or liquid is going to be the way forward for green vehicles, such as some of the concept cars now which emit only water!

Just a word of caution to anyone getting one of those, I took all my paperwork in to my DVLA office today to get it registered, but to be told I need to bring the bike in for inspection,(to prove its new) now this office is 7 miles from where i live and it has to be taken in on a trailer, I cant ride it in, I wish i had known this first
  • Are thee road legal, I thought speedos have to have mph/kmph

I wouldnt trust a electric scooter they make me laugh all this talk on environment, when most of our energy comes from burning fossil fules hardly environmental freindly
  • I don't think the DVLA pull in every bike for inspection, having spoken to many clients and dealers who we insure for the electric mopeds only a few are called in for inspection, I think you were just unlucky.
