I don't think the DVLA pull in every bike for inspection, having spoken to many clients and dealers who we insure for the electric mopeds only a few are called in for inspection, I think you were just unlucky.

They said this one does as the import date is declared as October 08 on the supplied paperwork !

So will it be a 59 plate or a 58 plate?

    59 reg i think.....
  • Thanks for the info, a bit worried about the reg problem; sorting out a trailer to take a bike for inspection could be a real headache especially if you you have no tow ball on the car!
I'm wondering if it's better to post the reg stuff rather than go in person as knowing my luck I'd get an unhelpful twit to deal with.

Please anybody with any more experiences of the scooter as I need to decide very soon whether to buy?

just ride it down to the test centre m8 ... chances are you wont get caught. just wheel it in and say your friend dropped you round off the corner. why does the system makes it difficult for people to be green. the government should relax the rules on these things anyway. they are no faster than a racing cyclist and no more dangerous to other road users than a horse for example. yes if they relaxed the rules there would be a few smashes but they are ideal for short journeys and people who cant be bothered with cycling

  • Just thought if you set the restrictor down to 12mph you could tell them it's a mobility scooter; then once registered wind it back up to 30mph and off you go !

I got a friend with a van to help me take it down the DVLA this coming Tuesday; I took out 3 of the batteries from under the seat which has made it much lighter. (the 4th one is in a different place and would take quite a bit more stripping down to get it out so I dint bother)

Hopefully I can then use it !

get one of those big chain and padlock sets (ebay etc ) they will never cut thru them and i only paid £16 for mine ... there a real deterrent to a theif

if they are chained to something fine, but i worked for a massive global company and someone had a sports bike parked in front of glass windows.....van pulled up - two massive blokes got out and opened up the back of the van and lifted the bike with lock into the back and drove off...took about 10-15 secs..loads of people saw them...speechless
