  • Well it's the equivalent power of around 400 good AA rechargables or pehaps 3.5 car batteries so £150 to £200 isn't outrageous.

Ah, ok I understand what you say.

So if the battery lasts 12 months, costs £200 and it does 30 miles on a charge, I reckon that it would do 10950 miles before it needed replacing Therefore you would need to add to the running costs 1.82 pence per mile.

Yes I make it about half the cost per mile of a petrol scooter.
The economics aren't bad which probably explains why these scooters are apparently common in places like china. Maybe in a few years time some of the issues around these scooters will be resolved and they might become more of a good buy.
Petrol scooters have issues too and looking on ebay at 2nd hand ones and reviews there are plenty of people who've been through a long list of spares to maintain their petrol scooter, even the well known brands. It could even be argued that the electrics will have fewer failures. So to me the main issue is these electric companies have got to address the spares availability to bring confidence to the market.

De-restricting petrol scooters seems to be extremely common place to allow keeping up with traffic (which as we know doesn't stick anywhere near to speed limits). I must admit I wouldn't feel totality comfortable chugging along at 27mph on an electric on a sub-urban road, maybe inner city where traffic is a lot slower. Looking on the web a few enthusiasts are increasing the voltage on their scooters to try and address this issue although it will cost a few hundred quid I would think.

The concept of electric scooters seems a good one but the importers need to up their game a bit before they can expect the market to take off.

If they are 38AH I think you are right; ukecoscooters claim to do 4 28Ah for about £143 including delivery. I haven't seen any other scooters that use 38AH so I'm still wondering if this is correct.

I've been thinking of buying 2 of these; one to use and the other for spares; perhaps charge the spare's batteries every week and they might still be useful in a years time; not sure on that though! Given this is about half price of any similar scooters on the market it might not be a totally mad idea; just slightly mad maybe!
  • Thanks for the pictures, looks very interesting!
  • hi everyone,

bought one of these last week and manage to get on the road on Saturday. Fully charge on Saturday night and get ready for milage test on Sunday.

Juorney 1 : Milton Keynes to Luton about 19 miles ( Countrside with many small hills) Milton Keynes - Worburn - Toddington - Leagrave - Luton

Weight on bike : 17 stones (two person) plus 10kgs of stuffs
    Time took: 1 hrs

Bike went smoothly for the first 10 - 12 miles and battery still show full. After that battery level start dropping. bike went slow at the last few hundred yard from our destination. ( i mean very SLOW) . luckily we have make it. Then charge the battery (5 hrs) for the return journey.

Journey 2 : Luton to Milton Keynes about 18 miles ( Luton -Dunstale - Milton Keynes A5)

Weight on bike : 17 stones (two person) plus 3 kgs of stuffs

The return journey was FUN, TIRED and took us 2.5 hours. i think many of you have guested it right. Not enought battery and did a lot of pushing.

by the way, we stoped by the police on Journey one and i can confirmed that if you paased your full UK license before 2001 you are OK to ride without CBT and you can carry a passenger.
  • Enough said :)

Thanks for posting your report, it was interesting to read. Would be interested to know how it faired when being driven by just one person. The extra person, I guess, would significantly reduce it's mileage?

I have to admit I did think the 40 miles claimed was very optimistic, a 1500w motor at 48volts is 30amps on a 38ah battery it is only going to last 1hr. Luckily for me I only need to cover 15miles round trip for work. But I think the first time I take to work I will pack my charger.

What did your speedo show as max speed ?
