Ah right, thanks for your response. Will be very interested to hear your perspective on this piece of kit.

In answer to last post you could drive it using another insurance but the law states the car/bike must be insured in its own right, so the answer is no

The law doesn't say that, but some insurers do, mine (Direct Line) for example does not. What they all do say is that the vehicle must not be owned by or leased/hired to you.

However given the problems (can't leave it parked on the road, has to be truly owned by somebody else) it's not nearly worth the risk of getting six points and tripling your insurance premiums for many years should you not do it 100% legit.

So I guess if it was registered in your partners name that would be ok? Are you saying that it wouldn't be insured for theft if it was registered in your partners name and you were using it?

It wouldnt be insured for theft anyway if your using insurance from another policy (on say a car) to cover you, as most policies allow you to drive other vehicles 3rd party only... so by doing it this way the bike itself has no insurance at all, not if stolen, nor if you crash it.
The Head Honcho (does very little work)

You wont be able to register it or tax it (even though its free) without valid insurance on the scooter it's self.

About a year ago I bought some T10 LED side lamps from DX which I was going to fit to my car, but was a pain to fit so I didn’t bother. I found them today so I stuck them on the scooter, took about 2 mins!, They are so much more brighter that the stock ones & of course the use very little power which is useful !

These are the one I used :-

  • I've just taken delivery of one of these bargain expansys scooters
So far very impressed for the price.

Got a day of work today and managed to do some tests on the scooter..

I worked out an exact 5 mile run from my house, drove there and back twice with a 10 min stop in between.
Fairly flat roads and drove it flat out 90% of the time.

After the 20 Miles , the odo had increased by exactly 40 !
So just need to divide by 2 to give mileage covered.

The battery indicator under throttle slowly dropped to the top of the red on the last few miles but still managed to get me up to about 20/25mph over the last mile.

I measured the battery voltage afterwards and it read 46.8v which is as good as discharged.

Have now done just over 100 miles on it (odo reading 200), shall keep using it to get to work while the weather stays dry.
