The Great 'Gok Yourself' How To Dress Thread

Love this thread! Some great advice and rather hilarious observations made by all!
One thing I try to remember when dressing is where my good bits are and where the bits I want to hide are. I'm a 10/12 but have a pot belly (lovely, lovely image I'm painting... it's not THAT big!!) and don't like it. So, I choose loose, floaty tops that I can cinch in with a belt and let skim over my stomach. I like my legs (they're quite long) so wear skinny jeans, shorts and skirts a lot.
I try to buy natural fibres too - cotton, wool, leather. Natural fibres hold their shape better, fit better and let your skin breathe.0 -
ooooh, anyone else notice the abundance of camel toes at the moment with rather middle aged ladies embracing the cotton trousers (which always tend to be too short as well, but thats another issue lol)
isnt it funny, how we are all different shapes, sizes and ages, yet sizes for clothes are standardised ...... how i would love to be able to afford tailor made clothes lol0 -
How about, if you feel great about yourself, don't go round looking at other people as though they have just crawled out from under the nearest stone? The disgust/derision look isn't attractive - it just makes the prettiest tiny girl look like a skanky old hag.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0

Thats another one of my 'tips' though... FIND a tailor (or learn to sew yourself!) who can take things in, lengthen them, alter them to fit your shape. It only cost a couple of pounds, but can completely change your wardrobe. You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: OMG! I nearly mentioned camel toe earlier but thought better of it.
I thought that people would know that they needed a bigger size/diferent cut etc. Oh how wrong!
Everyone can have a camel toe moment, espescially at that time of the month when you're all swollen and ready to open the flood gates (Maybe TMI?!:o).
As for bikinis, I'm 31 and a size 12. I have NEVER worn a bikini.
If I did, I have little doubt I would get harpooned!Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
If I could send something to room 101 it would be roll necks. Unless you are pretty slim I just think they make you look 10 times bigger. And sadly I have made the awful mistake of wearing them
(in the distant past I might add).
As an apple it's V necks and scoop necks all the way from now on
I will probably get flamed for this but I really loathe skinny leg jeans
It's not a jealousy thing as I can't get away with wearing them but I just don't like the way they gather round the ankles. Thank the lord for bootcut jeans.
I agree about Goks Fashion Fix. I thought it was a pants show (I only watched because a friend was in the audience for the catwalk and I spend every week trying to spot her on TV :rotfl:). However I think he was far better on Look Good Naked. I didn't always like what he styled the women in (as opposed to Trin & Sus who I always did) BUT that man makes women feel good and I think that's only a good thing. If only we could do the same to ourselvesI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

:eek::eek: You know what, I never knew what to 'call' that. But it can be quite disturbing at times.Everyone can have a camel toe moment, espescially at that time of the month when you're all swollen and ready to open the flood gates (Maybe TMI?!:o).
Very true but its at times like thoses you're concious of the possibility of it and know to try and make sure it doesn't happen.... or at least try and cover it!
I am quite disturbed by the picture _pale_ so thanks for that. Lol :rotfl::starmod: :starmod: :starmod: "Live like you mean it, Love 'til you feel it" :starmod: :starmod: :starmod:- The Goo Goo Dolls0 -
A lined skirts are flattering on pear shapes, both dresses and skirts as they skim over the hips and bum. Avoid wearing pencil skirts! I have a really annoying post pregnancy figure, flabby tummy and pear shaped, only a size 12 so no other problem areas. I now find everything that used to flatter me now looks awful because of the tummy. Plus have hardly any money to spend on buying a new wardrobe. Can anyone make suggestions (not sit-ups though!)
I have big hips and find a line skirts and dresses very flattering. Also a padded wonderbra gives me a nice cleavage as I am small chested
I bought those hold you in big knicker things from m and s and they do pull your tummy in. (Just don't let your partner see you in your underwear when you are wearing them) There again if you would rather go to sleep than have a night of passion it might be worth letting him.Money SPENDING Expert0
