Does it make a difference if they are dark colours? (grasping at straws)

Sadly, I would say not - then you're entering lingerie/nightwear territory (and no-one wears chiffon nightwear anymore... do they?).

Kate Moss may be able to get away with it - but then she always looks a bit skanky to me; like she needs a good wash.

You know something, Im going to buck the trend here. IF its for a night out, then go for it! As long as you're wearing trousers, and have your bottom half well covered, then why not? IF you can do it in a 'classy' not brassy way, then I think it'll look fine.

(But please, be honest with yourself. If you've got so much as a hint of the old muffin top, or pot belly, then keep it covered for all our sakes...)
You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....

Have to agree, floaty see through tops, no matter how slim and slender, only send the wrong message.

    What message would that be?

If anything, that would want to make you wear it more, surely? ;)

I'd echo GTC, a camisole underneath will give a much better look. M&S do an inexpensive thin stretchy one in black, white and nude.

And that reminds me of my top tip. If you're wearing white trousers always wear flesh coloured knickers underneath if you don't want everyone to see exactly what sort of knickers you're wearing. White ones will and do show through.
