The Great 'Gok Yourself' How To Dress Thread

As a poster on another thread suggested, it would be nice to have one thread for general tips on what to wear (and not
), how to dress to flatter your figure etc etc. So maybe this could be it.
I'll start off with one of mine:
Never wear a skirt to mid-calf. It's usually the fattest part of your leg below the knee. Try to find skirts that end either on the knee (if they're presentable-in-public) or just below (if not).
Ditto with arms. Unless you are blessed with Michelle O fabby arms, try to wear either cap sleeves or something below the elbow. Sleeves that come to the mid upper arm are very unflattering - sleeveless is actually easier to pull off than this length.

Dress up a plain looking top/dress with a scarf. broach, the more colourful the better:D
Softer fabrics like chiffon are flattering to all shapes and sizes, wear it and flaunt it!
Cant afford a hat for a wedding/special occasion? Try a fascinator, cheap and totally sophisticatedtotal airhead, total bimbo, very superficial:D0 -
Oooh, loving the scarf/brooch tip.
Just remembered this one and it's something I need to do more often:
Try something on that is totally outside your comfort zone once in a while. You never know, you might like it!It will stop you getting stuck in a rut.
Having said that, don't slavishly follow trends. Try on the skinny jeans, ponchos, tulip skirts etc - but if it doesn't suit you, don't buy it!Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Unless you have fat arms, the cap sleeves are HIDEOUSLY unflattering, believe me I know:cool::heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0 -

Cleavage or legs, not both - it is far too easy to look trashy by highlighting both with one outfit.
Of course there are exceptions to the rule, but the general rule of thumb is don't!The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Well, you're right actually, there are some huge wide cap sleeves that look like wings/Star Trek uniforms! :rotfl:
But there are some nice narrow fitting cap sleeves out there.
And yes, my tip was aimed at the more voluptuous lady...Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Not at all.I think everyone, whatever their size, benefits from dressing to suit their body shape - hiding the bad bits and emphasising the good!
I'm sure we will post some tips for the slimmer ladies too - such as not wearing a structured (e.g. corset) top which you can't fill in case of nipple exposure! See Gwyneth Paltrow's pink dress at the Oscars a few years ago for illustration.Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Im sorry, but thats absolute nonsense. Chiffon is NOT flattering to anyone but the lithe of limb, and flat of stomach. Its see through for a start! If you want people to see your bingo wings and muffin top, then be my guest and wear it, but its 100% NOT flattering! You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....

sorry but the chiffon outfits I have seen in shops have had under slips and cami's with them............. hardly see through.
I'm just giving a tip as I saw it............ seen people of all shapes and sizes wearing chiffon and it looks good on them:Dtotal airhead, total bimbo, very superficial:D0
