I'd ban those cycling shorts............ you know the tight fitting ones and come in really ikky colours like lime green or yellow:eek: I always seem to come across people wearing them when its warm......... they are hideous and certainly not flattering to the figure!:rotfl:total airhead, total bimbo, very superficial:D0 -
I must agree about undies under trousers and bras, much as I don't give a stuff what anyone wears it does make me wince when people wear really ill fitting or unintentionally visible undies. INTENTIONALLY visible undies are a different kettle of fish...
Something that does always startle me is when ladies wear trousers that are a similar colour to their skin, I always have a brief moment of fear and shock when I think they are naked from the waist down. That is probably my only fashion "rule", I don't think anyone should wear plain trousers that are anywhere near the same as their skintone. Because it scares me.
Also want to agree with the criticisms of Gok Wan's Fashion Fix, he overaccessorises and his catwalk outfits are generally unsuitable for anyone not model tall and slender and/or over 18, whereas Brix's designer looks are often beautiful and would work on most people with a bit of tweaking.
I hate the way he (and Trinny and Susannah) rely on "magic" underwear* as well, it's far too uncomfortable and impractical to wear every day, not to mention !!!!!!, and they would be better off repopularising a proper bra, a decent girdle and the art of wearing a slip! At least that way you can look like a fox with your dress off, instead of an accident in a sausage factory
*Fair enough under a bodycon dress or something.0 -
see, i have issues with the magic underwear - i dont know if its just me (probably is) and feel free to have a right giggle at me, but i have the following problems with the all over control pants
my bum seems to loose all shape and looks like its been wrapped in cling film
my tummy is flatter - but the excess is pushed up and over the top - which means i have to have them pulled up to right under my bra - fine until i sit down and then gradually the top starts to roll down leaving a nice line and making it damn uncomfortable
thighs are gine - but again, the bit that isnt held in seems to do something like pop eyes muscles when he ate spinich and bulges at the bottom making the top part of my legs look like an hour glass
therefore - i dont wear them lol - i tend to go for same colour underwear and lady boxers and "my bra" you know the ones, those that you try on and fit perfectly so for the rest of your life those are the only ones yout buy
on the subject of bras - a good fitting in m & s or Debinhams once every 6 months works wonders because my shape changes over time and the right size bra is soooooooo importantim a firm believer in trinny and susannah's theory that if you hitch them up you look slimmer and feel more confident

I have a waist cincher from Maidenform. I don't like wearing it under t-shirts as I am worried about it showing because it's boned. But because it is boned and come up to under my bra it doesn't roll down. Have to say I tried an unboned version from M&S which cost £30 and kept rolling down and was useless. Ordered my cincher from Maidenform direct and only cost £18 + P&P. Does the job and I wear it on nights out etc or under garments I think won't show the boning (which probably t-shirts wont do either but am a little paranoid).
My biggest bug bear is magic knickers which have the long leg. Now my thighs aren't ginormous but I have a little flab on the inside and they make my legs bulge when the magic knicker ends as they aren't big enough. Honestly I think those sorts of leg things are for those with skinny legs and if you've got them already why would you need control pants that come to your knees :rotfl:
I am aiming to get slimmer but my biggest worry is I've never had a butt before (please now no smutty comments) and with extra weight I actually have something to fill my jeans and trousers. I know as soon as I get slimmer this will rapidly disappear. Perhaps I'll have to invest in those sorts of knickers that have a little padding in the rear
Edited to add: wow don't I sound a stunner with inner thigh flab and baby bellyOnly added bonus is I don't have saddle bags. So I end up with trousers with a flappy bit on the side like I am in the gestapo :rotfl:

You know what? You should just rename this thread to "let's all slang off everyone we've ever seen in the street and fat people shouldn't wear any clothes at all."
I've never seen such a collection of unpleasant, catty observations collected in one place for a long, long while. Nothing constructive after page 1... just page after page of "oh if you're fat don't wear x"... "I saw a woman wearing x and she wobbled a bit hee hee heee"... large people need to dress too... you've already lambasted Gok for falling back on wide leg trousers and loose floaty (but not see-through) tops... yet you've ridiculed everything else that particularly large people wear.
Yes, I'm fat - and surprisingly, I wear a lot of wider leg trousers, longer tunic length tops that tailor in at the waist - because.... THAT SUITS ME.
Honestly though - you're the worst kind of women for some of the stuff you're coming out on on here. Quit lying to yourselves that you're talking about how to dress yourselves - you're just wanting to shred other people relentlessly.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

Can I disagree with you on this? I have seen that there are some catty remarks about size (NOT GUILTY [for once] myself); I think the same might happen elsewhere.
I am not defending this thread - although I have taken part in it - as far as I can see it is (like the other fashion threads) serving very little purpose. You are understandably sensitive on the issue of weight and how to lose it, dress it up, live with it etc etc; I am the absolute last person who would condemn someone for their size (plan to train as a Dietician next year after my one year Science Access course) but know that it is a subject that can bring the absolute worst out in people.
You can feel totally free to think and say what you want - here, as anywhere - but think you might be focussing on the -ve of the thread rather than the +ve (there IS some, I think).

I am also a larger lady,:pand I know what suits me too, but I have seen some horrendous sights, with people thinking what they are wearing is flattering, when it isnt:cool:

There are some remarks that cut too close to the bone, but not everyone who participated in this thread went down that road! And there are some helpful, useful, understanding comments made by some (I include myself in that), so please don't just skim over them and go straight to the bad stuff.0 -

I think some excellent advice was given - after all, why would you want to look bad - this is what draws attention to you if you are obese
I have said it before, I work with a woman who has a BMI in the 40s... but she craves food and is addicted. She thinks about it all day long, and eats it whereever she can. She admits it. She battles with her weight constantly... BUT she dresses so fantastic you hardly notice her weight
Nice tailored tops, nice appropriate necklaces/neck wear.. she seems to know how to draw your eye to something else, and not the weight... and she always looks GREAT! Plus she has a really pretty face
She doesn't lie and pretend she eats fresh air and exercises like Elle MacPherson :cool:0
