Glasses....anyone buy from Selectspecs or eyewearcentre?

    I'm new here, I stumbled across these forums whilst doing some research on selectspec.com.

    I lost my glasses last week and quickly ordered a replacement pair off selectspecs.com. I ordered a pair of designer frames with 1.67 index lenses. I was initially lured in by the option of free lenses, but when it came to buying the glasses I was roped into paying £50 for this higher index as the website physically wouldn't allow me to go for any lower index. I found this a little odd as my last frames had standard 1.52 index lenses in them and they were fine (albeit they were thick frames).

    Anyway, I ordered the glasses on the 3rd of Jan and the status on the website is still at 'frames ordered'. I'm aware they make take longer to make with the high index lenses. I've been browsing the forums and I've heard mixed things about the delivery speed. I was just wondering when I should be expecting my glasses? I have exams starting in 2 weeks and I'd love to be able to see properly :p

    I have been waiting since November for my specs from selectspecs Order 146904,I have been in contact with select specs who refuse to give me money back so will now be taking it up with credit card company as I have paid for goods that I have not recieved, surely in breech of contract, shame really as i have used this company before and they did deliver, must be a poor customer service dept imho.

  • After many attempts to get my problem resolved (still ongoing) i have been reduced to posting this. Order 147020 placed 14/11/10 and received some 6 weeks later but totally wrong and not able to be used.
    1st complaint reference number 3836 sent on 26/12 to advise out of focus and had been checked by my own optometrist who advised lenses set to high in the frame.
    I received a reply reply about the usual jargon on wearing varifocals even though I explained that I have been wearing them for many years..
    After more complaints I was advised that they would be happy to replace the lenses for an additional $25.00 if this is the case why am I paying for something that is totally wrong. Obviously in my case T&C mean nothing except to Select Specs.
    Now the latest reply is that I only have to pay postage as single vision lenses will be re supplied free of charge, I DID NOT ORDER SINGLE VISIONS AND HAVE USED THEM FOR MANY YEARS.
    This is certainly not a working out to be a cheap exercise for me or one that I would contemplate doing again with this company, if the ongoing complaint was handled better (try reading my complains Select Specs) I would have thought of it as just one of those things and reordered more
    There would have to be a better result than the one I am getting for me to use their services again. CAN YOU AFFORD TO PUT MONEY DOWN THE DRAIN? I CANT!

    I ordered a variafocal reglaze of very expensive frame on 1st Janaury. My frrames arrived at selectspecs no problem. The next thing is the lenses were ordered within a few days. I checked today, there is no order, and no order history, Help the frames were expensive. (the lenses £65.00) Is the company rep about as they are difficult to contact. Order number 152103.
    I did not mind waiting for glasses, but for the order to simply go from their system. I would not have used them if I had looked at the forum first.

  • Its a shame that i feel i need to come to writing on a forum in the hope of getting something sorted out.

    I ordered 2 pairs of glasses from Selectspecs on friday the 28th of January 2011, as soon as the order completed i noticed that my account from a previous order was still at my old address. So i went back into my account to change my address, which i did. Thought all was happy. I then received my order confirmation from selectspecs which had my old address on the order, so i tried in vain to find a way of contacting them, only the online customer services, with the most god awful automated conatct system. Still not getting a reply when i came to work today, i contacted again.

    So this is the exact back and forth, except ive removed my address:

    Me: Hi I need to change the delivery address. I have recently moved out of 10 ****** Road. My bank account is still registered here.

    Please can you send my order to

    1**0 ********** Road
    *********
    ******
    OL** ***

    Please confirm when this is done

Please can you address my concerns that an order will be sent to an incorrect address, instead of regurgitating the same answers.

    This was the last i heard from them, okay so it was only to hours ago but now my order of 2 pair of glasses are going to my old address (which i had to move out of due to very personal reason, that i have been advised by Police to stay away from for my safety)

    I need to get this address changed but they dont seem to want to let me do this and are insistent with their 'warm regards' to send my delivery to my old address!

    No customer service at all

    My order went back on the system later that day. I
    managed to follows its progress, and the rep did reply to my post. Thanks for that.

    The glasses arrived here the last couple of days in January. They seem to work well enough. The lenses are a bit thick, I do not have a high prescrition so thought I did not need them thinned. Specsavers lenses are much nicer, bottom line is for £65.00, they work and specsavers wanted £230 for new glasses, I could not afford this.

    So in my case they did quite well. It would seem you get what you pay for which most of us knew anyway. I Intend to order my next pair of glasses on line but from a another supplier. I will be carefull who I choose.

    Lambie22: I am having the exact same problem, except I updated my address BEFORE ordering the new specs. Having noticed the address was incorrect on the order confirmation , I attempted to email them using their frustrating system, only to also receive warmest regards e mails telling me that the specs have been shipped to the previous address. No apology, no solution. Cant phone, cant reason with anyone and end up being totally disappointed at the deterioration in what was actually very good service previously.

    And where is James when you need him.....:(
  • I know, its unbeleivable, when i have questioned this with them again the reply has said that my mail redirection should deliver them to my new address.

    I have ordered with these guys 3 times before and other than the wait they were fine. I will not be ordering again!!

    And strange how the Specsavers Rep has not commented, even though he has been online a few times. Seems that he is happy to help with the simpler queries!

    I will be telling people i know not to use these cowboys again!
