  • I have had the worse experience using Selectspecs. I need varifocals and this makes the glasses pricey - nearly £200 without designer frames. The coating on the lenses started to peel after 14-15 months and because this was outside the 12 month warranty period they could not care less, just expected me to buy another pair or have them reglazed. I actually went into their Westgate store and showed the glasses to the 3 staff members there who verified that it was definitely a problem with the coating. This was a flaw in the components not a break or due to anything I had done and I have spoken to other firms who have all said they would have done something about it. Have just sent an email asking if I could get a proper guarantee that if a similar problem occurred again it would be put right but they are only interested in providing a basic 12 month warrantee. I'm not paying that amount again to have glasses that last just over a year. It made my last pair the most expensive ever. I suggest you don't use them for anything that costs more than a very few £s.
  • The worst customer service I have ever experienced. They sent the wrong prescription. I informed them straight away and they assured me I was wrong. I took the glasses to Specsavers and they clarified that they were +2 and not -2 as per my prescription. I took a photo of the Specsavers reading and sent to SelectSpecs. They still would not take my word for it and sent a form to be printed and the glasses to be returned. They then admitted they had sent the wrong prescription and it was their error. No apology. I had to chase them for a refund. No apology and no offer of contributing to my trip to Specsavers to clarify their error. I note that they report all bad reviews to Trustpilot and they therefore have them taken down to boost their ratings. No doubt this will happen to this review.
  • This thread is largely critical of SelectSpecs but the criticisms ended in April 2017.

    Have Select Specs improved at all?

    I saw they were cheaper than SuperDrug but used the exact same frames and similar web site. I am tempted to give them a go - but reading this I have misgivings. Whats the latest verdict people have on them?

    Hi,

    We're constantly making improvements where possible, but unfortunately there will always be some customers that have a poor experience, however, we try to rectify these issues where possible. We have made vast improvements over the past year and have some further developments within our lab and dispatch area coming online in the next few months.

    We do collect reviews using Trust Pilot, this should give you a good idea of how customers are finding their experience at the moment.

    Hope this helps. Any questions please don't hesitate to ask - we check back here in these forums when possible.

    Hi All,
    Don!!!8217;t rely on SelectSpecs - they blame customer for their own inefficiency
    I ordered a pair of SelectSpecs prescription sunglasses. 10 May 2018.
    On 15 May I requested delivery address be changed
    The response was as follows :
    !!!8220;We can amend your delivery address and send your item to the
    place where you are going to!!!8221;
    On 16 May I advised I would provide new delivery address
    The response was as follows:
    !!!8220;Please let us know the new delivery address and we will amend it for
    you in our system!!!8221;

    On 26May I provided address (note glasses were still in production)
    I received no response
    On 29 May I again asked to be contacted about delivery
    The response was as follows:
    !!!8220;Your glasses should enter glazing shortly and should be completed
    in 3-4 days. Delivery takes a while, so I!!!8217;m afraid your order will not reach
    Lisbon by 5 June.
    So we would suggest you to use your Portugal address.!!!8221;

    On 30 May I was sent and tracking email from FedEx with the original
    address still in place!
    On 30 May I advised them of their error of not altering delivery address
    The response was as follows:
    !!!8220;Your item was completed on yesterday evening and FedEx came early
    in the morning today before we could amend the delivery address!!!8221;
    Please accept our apologies for the inconveniences.
    I have checked with our Dispatch Department and they advised that now
    only addressee can arrange the change of address !!!8211;
    please contact FedEx with your tracking number!!!8221;

    On 30 May I responded to say this is not an acceptable explanation and
    how would they rectify for me
    The response I received was:
    !!!8220;Any changes to orders are possible within 2 hours upon placing the order !!!8211;
    any later change will depend on the situation and we can!!!8217;t guarantee
    it as most of the processes are automated.
    We tried to amend your address, but unfortunately couldn!!!8217;t !!!8211;
    you provided these details when placed your order and this information
    was used for dispatch. Therefore we can!!!8217;t pay for redelivery of your parcel,
    sorry.!!!8221;
  • I received my glasses from selectspecs this week and took them to my local opticians to be adjusted so they were more comfortable.

    After adjusting them for me my optician and the guy who carries out the eye tests tested the strength of my left lense. The right lense being Plano.

    They tested it using 2 different pieces of equipment and found the lense does not match my prescription. They said the axis was out by quite a bit.

    I entered the details of my prescription correctly at time of ordering and also attached a copy for selectspecs to check also. My delivery note also states that my prescription information was correct.

    I've sent an email to selectspecs for their thoughts, but I think I would like a refund now because I can't risk them not being made to my prescription again.

    Just thought I would warn others.
  • Had a terrible experience . They did not deliver my purchased eyewear.

    I felt robbed. Try a more credible online store.
  • It's all so true! SelectSpecs are the most appallingly awful company. They make illegal statements (have those in writing if anyone's lawyer wants to challenge!) I ordered Oakleys; 10 days later they emailed (runaround number #1) that they couldn't supply. They said re-order, different style. I gave them benefit of the doubt and ordered (runaround number #2) alternatives (Costellhoe, which cost £30 more; price creeping up! - and they would not absorb the cost themselves, to keep me sweet. How much did I feel like a valued customer?). Received them weeks and weeks later, having challenged them with "where are they?" (runaround number #3) They said they hadn't used signed-for delivery, but insisted that the Tracker showed they were delivered. I said that they hadn't been delivered to ME! They said they didn't care, because they had been delivered somewhere, and that they have no responsibility to ensure they arrive at the right address. Apparently, once the glasses leave selectspecs, according to them, the customer is legally responsible for ensuring delivery to themselves!!!  How about that one! for illegal nonsense! Mafia! I could make millions in that way! After much more argument and 4 more days, the glasses arrived in a cheapest of cheap plastic case. They were far too small, AND the lenses were not MY prescription. Useless! Then came the (runaround number #4) task of getting them returned. Firstly, they refused to accept a return. I insisted very heavily on my rights. Then they said return them, but pay for paid-for delivery, otherwise, if THEY don't receive them, then the customer is at fault. I wasn't going to give them any wriggleroom, so paid £6 recorded-delivery, although I felt like insisting that, once they leave me, they are SelectSpecs' problem.      JUST DO NOT USE THIS HIDEOUS COMPANY. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE EASIER/BETTER ONLINE, BUT IT WAS THE MOST PROTRACTED AND ANNOYINGLY STRESSFUL 6 WEEKS, WITH NO JOY AT THE BEGINNING, MIDDLE, NOR END. They cannot operate with respect for customers, they cannot deliver what the website promises, and they treat customers with contempt for expecting a standard of business that is de-rigeur in most other, proper companies.

    Ordered a pair from their £6 range. Took about 2 weeks to arrive.  Quite easy to work out pupillary distance and arm length using old glasses. Very pleased with my SelectSpecs glasses.
