Glasses....anyone buy from Selectspecs or eyewearcentre?

I think the unreliability of shipping is a shame. I have ordered twice before and have been extremely happy with the product I received. I would expect that the glasses produced this time would be of the same high standard - IF I EVER GET THEM.0

An update from Selectspecs:
"If these do not arrive with you by 26th November we will replace these for you, apologies for the inconvenience caused."
I s'pose eventually they will say if they do not arrive by 2020 we will replace them. This is not good enough. I used to recommend Selectspecs to people. But I can not recommend them any longer.
Beware of dealing with this company. They do not take their responsibility seriously in terms of their customers.0 -
Well my glasses are here despite the fact that the Hong Kong Post Office tracking site still says that they are still being processed for departure from Hong Kong and the redirect site for Australia Speedpost still has no entry for them. Don't these people ever update their information?
So all this angst could have been avoided if these sites were updated as things happen.
OR if one of my 3 enquiries to Hong Kong Post Office had resulted in upgrading of the information or an answer as to the whereabouts of the glasses (ie they have left Hong Kong) instead of simply telling me that only the sender can initiate an enquiry.
OR if Selectspecs had actually read what I said in my emails and made the enquiry to Hong Kong Post instead of simply telling me they would replace the glasses if they had not arrived by an ever extending time frame.0 -
Hi Territorian,
Good to see you item has arrived, not entirely sure why the HK Post website has not been updated with the correct information but from previous experience their website is quick to update, but I think as you have received your glasses I think it's unfair of you to say "Beware of dealing with this company" when the issue was out of our hands.
We do keep in touch with our shippers and they have informed us recently that HK Post is very busy due to the sheer number of items being shipped out of Hong Kong (They say that it is due to the approaching Christmas period), to combat this we are avoiding using HK Post for the foreseeable future and will instead be shipping many items out via our UK office.
Hope this helps.

- A bunch of anonymous 'customer reviews' on the website (all of which are remarkably gleaming - a stark contrast to what I have read here and other places)
- Desperate people who feel they've been scammed having to resort to talking to a company 'representative' through this medium. All of this would be extremely embarrassing for a recognised and intellectual business wanting to satisfy customers
Hi Cheeky Goat, to answer your points:- If you had checked our website, you will noticed our PO Box address has been changed to a physical address, this was changed sometime ago now.
- As stated before, if we were to offer a phone service we would have to significantly increase our prices to cover increased costs. Our email system is very effectively. We will be trialling a live chat service very shortly with a view to making this a permanent feature instead of a phone service.
- Our customer reviews are testimonials, we do not edit these, customers only send us a review if they've had a good experience with us.
- We have a presence on MSE as an alternate way of contacting us for advice but this is not our main point of contact for inquiries. If we wasn't seen to be posting here then there would be no questions directed at us.
Hope this helps.

Having read a few of the comments posted on this thread I felt compelled to let you know of my experience with Select Specs...
As someone who is out of work currently I was looking for THE cheapest pair of specs out there.... Select specs were/are offering one of the cheapest prescription pairs I have seen at £9.50 including P&P so I decided to buy online using my credit card.
Now, having to provide your PD reading is a bit of a pain as most people will confer that the average prescription doesn't contain this info, however, Select specs offer a service whereby you simply send in an old pair of specs to them and they will gather this information once received.... After the initial hassle of sending off a pair in the post to SS I found within a couple of days their database had been updated and consequently my lenses and frames were then placed on order.
I finally received my glasses after around 12 working days of my glasses being ordered and I have to say I was incredibly impressed with the overall buying experience.
To conclude, in this life you get what you pay for generally and if you are the sort of person that needs excellent levels of customer service (these guys do not have a call centre so as to keep down costs) then you would be well advised to go to the High Street and pay double the price.
If, like me, you are someone who is prepared to patiently wait (A lot of their specs are sent from Hong Kong) for your order to arrive then I can recommend this company with two thumbs up!0 -
i ordered on the 6th of oct, supossedly sent out on the 14th of oct havent arrived so i complained today and they asked for a signature to send out replacements.no chance i was giving them my signature(sounded dodgy to me).so have started dispute to get my money back so i can order elsewhere.i have ordered lots of things from hong kong companies ie.. deal extreme and a like and it normally only takes a week for things to arrive.so my advice spend a little more for less hassle at one of the other hong kong optician's.0

i cancelled my disute as glasses turned up today. so if can wait 5+weeks for your glasses then consider them as they seem to be ok if you can wait a while for delivery.0

My experience with Select Specs has been very different. I went in knowing that ordering from the UK as a United States resident would have a longer shipping process (10+ days).
I placed my order on the 19th, and began to watch the process on their website which shows the steps taken (frames ordered, frames arrival, lenses ordered, lenses arrived, glazing, and finally shipping out).
The lenses and frames had arrived by the 23rd, at which point they were put into the glazing process.
My package was mailed out on the 29th, and I received it 17 days later on the 16 of December.
I live on the west coast, and was expecting it this week. Pleasant experience, and reliable.
Perhaps a change of pace from the negative outlook they're getting. I'm happy with my frames, and I saved around 200 dollars.0 -
Oh dear .. I've just tried to order from Selectspecs.com .. without first reading this forum!
It appears that Selectspecs.com have declined my credit card payment (which is odd). I phoned my credit card company and they have no request for payment on their system. I wonder how secure my attempted transaction was? James from SelectSpecs.com can you tell me what your phone number is? I can't find anyway of contacting your company on the website!
Who is your Data Controller and how do we contact him or her?0
