Anyone thinking of switching to EDF, Martin's mail yesterday said

" For many (but not everyone) EDF's recently launched, sexily named, online tariff version 5, is the cheapest gas & electricity package - £200 a year less than the average. Yet we've had a tip off it's due to be pulled from the market any moment "

My fixed rate with SP expires at the end of September and my account is currently in credit, so does anyone know whether SP would refund any credit at the end of the term ?

Of course they will. (As do all suppliers.)

Well I've opted out of SP's fixed price 2010 option and reverted to the monthly direct debit plan via the E-Mail, i am seriosly thinking about returning to "Utility Warehouse" I left them last year to move to SP. the reason i left them was they couldn't give me a fixed price package other than that they were pretty good, maybe it's a case of better the devil you know and all that.
  • Careful mentioning UW in a positive way, robt7893, you will probably now be accused of being a distributor or at the very least someone with a vested interest by some of the weirder element on here. ;)

I too am a SP customer with the fixed price tariff that comes to an end on 31st August. I have opted out of the new fixed tariff with SP via the email button.

Last night I applied to switch my dual fuel to EDF via topcashback, as that means £60 cashback, on the basis that my actual supply surely won't change over within 18 calendar days and I believe the SP representative has confirmed applying to switch is ok as long as it doesn't actually happen before 1st September? Has anyone else done this?

I know for a fact that my gas won't change over for MONTHS as annoyingly we are on an IGT which means it's a huge hassle to change suppliers . However, I am nervous about the electricity. I was working on the basis that as long as I get the cashback of £60 then I won't actually be out of pocket should I get charged the electrity cancellation fee anyway. Why is this all so complicated! Has anyone else had electricity transfer in less than 18 days? I know ours has always taken at least 4 weeks.

Another nervous SP customer here wanting to move to EDF before they pull there latest great offer - I have just called SP 3 times and asked the same question 1 came back and said that if they recieve the application to move before the end of the fixed term I will be charged £50 - The other 2 states that as long as the change over date is passed the end of the month I will not be charged. So still leaves me a little nervous about changing now - I might leave it till Monday what do you guys think?

Personally I would wait til the 01st September before applying for a switch, as I cant face the thought of customer service hell trying to reclaim the 50 pounds if they take it! It is annoying though that waiting till September could mean losing the EDF deal as a result. I did ask the SP rep if I did stay with SP, would they credit me the cashback I would get (60 pounds) if I had gone to EDF, and she said (predictably) no..I think the Energy companies need to wake up to the fact that they need to offer cash incentives to keep existing customers as well.

  • I to am anSP customer on the expiring fixd rate deal. and i have received the email about capped price energy september 2010.

Has any one compared the prices to the last deal people will be completing at August 2009 to the new deal, and if so whats the difference? percentage wise ?
Also what about the comparison to other SP deals.

I would switch to some of the other vendors if they were cheaper but i have heard about the awful customer service. Not called SP in a while but last time called they were great.

    Any other recommendations ?

I would do a comparison online first, then ring SP customer services and ask them what is the best they can do for you, tailored to your individual circumstances.

Personally speaking, I wouldn't bother about customer service, as in my experience, it is a hit and miss affair who you get. Some call staff are fantastic and cant do enough for you, then next time, you get someone who don't or won't help you at all. I always go on price alone.
