I will be doing the same in the coming days.
Was hoping EDF would appear on Quidco, as TCB can be a bit of a pain sometimes, but we'll see.0 -
From the Scottish Power website, the current tariffs they have are (not in cost order):
Standard Domestic
Online Energy
Green Energy
Capped Price Energy July 2010
Discounted Energy July 2010
Pay in Advance
Fix n Flex
Online Energy Saver 6
The above all show on the comparson websites so in theory should still be available. Only the first is offered by SP in the email to Fixed Price Online 2009 customers. Interestingly the list does not include pricing for the Capped Sep 2010 tariff being offered in the email.
The list of previous products' pricing (and therefore I assume no longer available) is:
Online Energy Saver 3
Online Energy Saver 4
Online Energy Saver 4 Green
Online Energy Saver 5
Fixed Price Energy 2011
Fixed Price Energy 2009
Fixed Price Energy December 2009
Discounted Energy October 2009
Pay in Advance February 2009
Capped Price Energy April 2010

It's a jungle out there, well that confirms it, as long as we don't change before our contract to SP expires we are legally ok. just to perk you all up, most of us will be doing this all over again next year!!!!0

Yes, it has just come through. They say this will switch me by default to Capped Price Energy September 2010 unless I opt out.
"Your Fixed Price Energy Offer ends on 31st August 2009 and because you're an important customer to us, we want to let you know what happens next.
If you're happy to cap your prices for the next 12 months, you don't need to do a thing. On 1st September 2009, we'll automatically move you to a great new deal called Capped Price Energy September 2010.*
With this deal you'll have peace of mind knowing that over the next 12 months your prices could go down, but they definitely won’t go above the capped rates.
There may be a cancellation charge if you decide to end the new deal early.** But, if you stick with it, you’ll have the reassurance that your prices will not rise above the capped rates until after 31st August 2010 – whatever happens to the market."
If I opt out, this is what they will do
If you don't want to protect your prices and would prefer to move to our standard monthly Direct Debit prices please tell us before 30th September 2009.
Standard monthly Direct Debit prices are currently the same rates as Capped Price Energy September 2010 prices and could go up as well as down.
You don't seem to get any other choices. I was planning to look around after 31st August to decide what to do next. Anyone any thoughts?
thanks violetta
I have just received my E-Mail as "Violetta" above , better late than never i suppose, i'll have to decide what to do now!! think i'll follow the majority's lead and opt out of the capped deal and look around for an uncapped deal elsewhere.0 -
I too have just received my email from SP and am as confused as most of the other posts in this forum. If only I had a crystal ball or an ability to understand the complexity of the tariff systems of the multitudes of suppliers?? Not only do we have to understand the various company tariffs but the geographic component adds another dgree of complexity.
I am currently thinking about opting out of the 2009 capped deal and taking my chances post 31 August - having checked the standard tariffs, they are currently exactly the same as the new capped 2010 ones - so no real rush.
Maybe it's time to head for a dark room with a bottle of Scotch!!0 -
For those who are uncertain over our Capped September 2010 Offer.
The prices applicable are the same as our current standard prices, but are guaranteed not to go above current rates until the end of the offer. Should you elect to take up this offer the same cancellation fees of £30 for electricity and £20 for gas will apply if you leave before the offer expires.
If you are uncertain it may be advisable to let us know that you wish to move only onto our current rates. The prices are the same, but you don't have the security of guaranteed protection from price increases. However you also do not pay any fees if/when you decide to transfer away.
If in any doubt I would always recommend calling us on 0800 400 200 for up to date and customer specific tariff advice.“Official Company Representative

Its a shame most of these utility companies are still not British owned, SP certainly went down hill when Spanish got hold of them0

@ SPR,
Your post implies that their are only 2 options available to customers whose Fixed Price Energy Online 2009 offer ends 31 Aug 2009 - either switch to Capped Sep 2010 or opt out and go on to Standard Domestic tariff.
As I showed earlier in post #43 your company has 7 other tariifs currently active. Can you please confirm unequivocally that a customer switching today from Fixed Price Energy Online 2009 (and happy to pay the £50 cancellation charge) is able to choose from any of these other tariffs?
Can you also confirm that a customer switching on 1 Sep will also be able to choose from SP tariffs in existence on that date other than just Standard Domestic or Capped Sep 2010?
Two straightforward questions that can be answered with a yes or no.

Apologies if my post left you feeling unsure, I only referred to this tariff in particular as it has been mentioned a number of times. There's nothing sinister in my not mentioning any other tariffs:A
If a customer wishes to transfer from Fixed 2009 today and is happy to pay the cancellation fee there are other tariffs available to them.
If a customer is switching on 1 September they too will also have the choice of more than just Capped 2010 or Standard.
I can only recommend speaking to us directly on 0800 400 200 to get customer-specific advice regarding what deal is best for you.

If there is other options open to customers ending there fixed deals on 31st then why don't SP make this fact clear in there E-Mail, instead of giveing us the choice of two options either stay on a fixed tariff or go variable. it gives jo public the impression that we are not valued anymore and are being fogged off that's what gets peoples backs up and decide to move on, if they offered a variety of othere options and were honest and fair with people we might be happy to stay on with them.surely this would be better than what's happening at present.0
