Help regarding my right to replace a PS3

I still don't understand why Play are bothering to entertain the Sale of Goods Act. As they are not a UK company they are not bound by it.
Not specifically by the Sale of Goods Act but they are now bound by laws that are the same thing. The only difference being up to 10 years instead of 6 in England and Wales."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I dunno if this will help anybody, but if you have a PS3 60gb that fails simply due to the console no longer reading/spinning the disk, you can sell them for about £150 on ebay.
I purposely bought a dead one for £20 with a view to repairing it, but once I found that the replacement 60gb drives have shot up in price, I decided to just try and sell it on. As it hadn't ever been opened up, I sold it for £145.
I know this may not be of MUCH help, but as a refund through a SOGA court case won't necessarily net you 100% of your purchase price (taking into account enjoyment/benefit gleaned from ownership prior to failure) you might be looking at that much settlement anyway.0 -

They dont seem to have got anywhere with Sony sadly. (I have only read the article, and am waiting the programe to upload to the Iplayer so correct me if I am wrong)
Am giving the repair centre a ring tomorrow so will post how its going at that point
On a side note - the price has dropped for the replacement from Sony to £118 probably as a result of the recent price drop of the new style unit.
I doubt now the repair will be as cheap as that, but still a good chance HMV will be paying for it, plus I will get to keep all my game saves and downloads...0 -
Very useful thread thanks.
I had my PS3 stop reading discs in warranty and had it replaced no problem. But I'm worried about the same thing happening now it's out of warranty.
I bought it from HMV so I know what to do if it does break again.
Does anyone know if I can take out an extended warranty or insurance for the PS3 now it's out of warranty?
I know continuous play did this and I was going to take that out when my warranty expired but they've withdrawn the service.0 -
I have submitted the story to Watchdog and given them a link to this thread.0

No idea, but I would imagine you should be able to find someone via google.
Let me know if you find a good deal!!0 -
Any updates, did you get a report yet?
Want to go down the same route, but waiting to hear what report you managed to get.0 -

I spoke to the repair centre friday - They said they would get to it either Friday or Monday and they would phone me with a price before carrying out the work - given I heard nothing on Friday, I am guessing it will be Monday now. I will phone them myself in the afternoon if I dont hear anything.0 -
Good news! The Console is on its way back to me fully repaired. Cost me £74 which is half as much as Sony wanted, with the added benefit I will still have all my game saves and downloads intact (and hopefully the Ghostbusters game! )
No idea what the report says yet, but its due to arrive tomorrow, so will let you know once I see it.0
