I know this thread is old i found it today after my husbands ps3 auto shut down then the yellow light came on.

All though the ps3 is nearly 3 years old its mostly just played on weekends and the odd weekday, funny enough it was brought from the same place as the op :D

Untill reading the thread i thought they had a bad batch in there store :o as i knew nothing about the ylod. Anyways my question is for thoughs who got there's fixed and used total console repairs to fix this problem how long did the console work after that?

Being xmas just around the corner its come at a bad time for it to break down, being as already forked out money on new games to be opened on xmas day so need a ps3 for them to played on.

    thanks in advance

  • Thanatos am asking if its alright to useing some of your letter you worte to hmv, after speaking to sony and no joy other than they have dropped the price to £110 now.

i rang hmv and after they said it was pasted warranty which i said about the SOGA and said he put us on hold to come back and said for me to get a report and send it to head office and they will deal with it from there.

Am now going to get a report the local repair shop wont touch it says they dont like the hassel as once got the yellow light they stay clear.

A new PS3 is anything from £165 (from a quick search). If they are offering you a new one for your old one plus £110 then they're basically offering you £55+ for your old PS3. Given that it is 3 years old then that's not that bad, since they are allowed to reduce any refund value by the amount of usage you have had - you could probably push them to £100.

Even if you get a report done (at your cost, which they refund if it finds in your favour) you'll probably not get much better a deal to be honest. But don't let this stop you trying if you think you'll succeed.

(I hope I've interpreted your posts correctly).
  • The £110 offer is what Sony quote for a replacement unit as it is outside of warranty, not what the store which the device was purchased from are quoting.

Based on the rest of this thread, it appears that once you've jumped through the required hoops, you get either the complete repaid paid for by the seller, or a replacement unit free of charge.

In short, ignore Sony altogether and fight the battle with the retailer.

  • Had same problem and paid up for a replacement. Sony say that there is not a design fault so how come replacement has cooling fan running all the time. Will not consider buying another sony product again.
