On reciepts different banks write payment type different. Halifax, Nationwide etc say VISA DEBIT in capitals, A&L write Visa Debit with just the v and d in capitals. The RBS i swiped said VISADEBIT on reciept, no spaces between the words and all in capitals.
Some people like HSBC have to be uber confusing and just call it 'Visa' which is the same label they also give to the application on their credit card, so if you happen to have both a credit and debit card which are both Visa, it is confusing on the receipt 'cos it just says 'Visa'. At least when they had the Maestro cards it'd come up as "Maestro UK".0 -

As for Visa Debit instead of Maestro...there was enough ads on tv when debit cars became Switch and then it all changed to Maestro with a bit less. Does it make any difference?
I believe the photo was stopped for a number of reasons being the increased admin for the small uptake and the fact that people never checked them. I also remember something mad about civil liberties too with the picture but cannot remember what as it was a long time ago- circa 2000 when they were stopped AFAIK.0 -
I asked Natwest specifically if their First Reserve account was going to keep its debit card and this is the email response I got back
"Thank you for your email.
I confirm that the RBS Group have decided to change all Maestro, Solo and Cirrus cards to VISA debit cards.
This change began in May 2009 and will mean that by 2011 all NatWest and RBS customers will be switched to VISA.
Your existing SOLO debit card will therefore be replaced by a VISA debit card in the near future.
There are many benefits to VISA as follows:
· Increased protection – when a customer uses their Visa Debit card to make purchases or buy goods on-line they will now receive a higher level of purchase protection
· Worldwide acceptance – Visa Debit is globally accepted at 29 million retail outlets across 160 countries including America, Asia and Pacific.
· Secure on-line shopping – protection through the ‘Verified by Visa’ scheme
· Easy and convenient to use when making payments, withdrawing cash from cash machines or obtaining foreign currency when travelling abroad
· Worldwide service to obtain cash over the counter – similar to a credit card cash advance
· Account balance at ATMs globally where Visa is accepted with our Global Balance Service
Please refer to our website for further information and updates on this matter.
