smelly hoovers

I have a miele hoover and have noticed any time I have used it recently, it stinks of wet dog (we don't have a dog) I think I hoovered up a damp patch. i dont know if I can soak the hose in the bath with some bleach?
Anyone else had a problem like this?0 -
I doubt the hose is the problem and it's the bag. If it's one of those with a removable bags put a fresh one in and pop in one of those scented tumble-drier sheets or a cotton-wool ball with a few drops of scented oil on it. Even a couple of slices of lemon might help I've you've none of the aforementioned. If all else fails then hoovering up a load of bicarb might help to absorb whatever foul odours or contaminants have been sucked in.0

The smell will be caused by bacteria or something similar - especially if the vac has not been used for a few days.
Try emptying the bag (or canister if it is bagless) and then clean or replace the filters (the paper element type like the ones in cars can be tapped gently into the bin or outside against a wall to release most of the dust, or if you have ones that are washable, give them a good clean as per the manufacturer instructions)0 -
This can happen if something inside is a bit damp or stale. Agree with a previous post. I put a few drops of neat lavender oil on a cotton wool ball & put it in the bag. Much nicer than wet dog........or wet cat, in our case.2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to freshen up my hoover? Every time I use it, it leaves/makes a horrible smell. I used to look after dogs and I assume it is a leftover smell from them. It is a bagless hoover. Is there a way to make it smell less offensive?
Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Hi,
give it a good wash down inside with a good disenfectant, Zolflora or even Jeyes.
I use a bagged cleaner, and I save up the kinda dried up bits from the gel air fresheners, and after emptying the bag I chuck them in, get a blast of freshness when switched on.0 -
I have a bagless vacuum too and what I do Is empty it and wash it out, then wipe with a damp cloth.
Make sure it is all dry before you use it again. You can also wash the sponge filter if you have one. I think by trying to clean each part of the cleaner is the only way.
There are also vacuum fresheners you can buy, I don't know how good these are as I have not used them

Hi tjp,
If you add a few drops of essential oil directly to the filter or to a piece of cotton wool and vacuum it up it will keep it smelling lovely for ages.

Son has 2 dogs who are generallly not smelly. However, their Dyson has now started smelling very strongly of wet dog. All the freseners have not helped. Dyson customer support said that they must have hoovered over something wet and then hoovered up doghairs and this has caused the motor to be contaminated. There only suggestion is to get a new macine. Not an option really. Does anyone have any suggestions?:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0
