  • Hi all,
I'm going to weigh in tomorrow as I've been away, I just hope the extra ice creams haven't added anything. :p

I just wondered if anyone here has tried hypnotherapy for weight loss? I really struggle to eat reasonable amounts of anything. I have been loosely following the slimming world diet as you can eat alot. It is an ongoing battle though. My mum suggested hypnotherapy so that I can get some control. Any opinions?

I don't know about hypnotherapy, but if your having trouble reducing portions / amount you eat, try doing it one step at a time (if you have tried this already).
Pick a one meal or snack you have in the day and either eliminate the snack (Choccy biccies?) or reduce the calorie count on that one meal (perhaps by not having the desert) and then go like that for several days. Once your mind (mostly) and body gets used to not having that move on the next meal or snack and reduce that until you're hitting your calorie target.
It is surprising how much you can eat and still get the calories in the right place if you pick foods well

I got the Paul Mckenna book, Think yourself Thin. I only paid a couple of quid for it second hand through amazon. It is quite interesting. I think I have learned how to control my eating from it - simply chewing stuff slowly and tasting every bit of it is a good start.

The Paul Mckenna book is really good because it advocates eating when you are hungry - but at the same time I think you have to learn to listen to what your body is asking for and if it is truly hungry or eating out of habit. I should follow his rules (only 4 of them - hardly complex!) more than I do but the basic principles dont need hypnotherapy: chew your food properly rather than wolf it down and your brain has time to catch up with your stomach. Do a little exercise - no matter how small and build on it. Then some more I cant remember. The cd that comes with the book is good for relaxing and a motivational boost but I dont think it works on its own.

I'm going to ty this, one step at a time is bound to work.

I woke up this morning after a week or so of eating far too much and decided to try again. Miraculously I haven't actually gained any weight (I'm still 131.8lbs), I just haven't been doing enough exercise so it feels like I'm getting flabby. I need to go and try on some bikinis for hols to spur me on as time is getting tight!! :o

That's brilliant advice IMO. In February I use to struggle up 4 floors of stairs 3 times a day the the office kitchen gasping for breath at the top.
Today I use the stairs every time (probably 6 times a day), run up the stairs 2 at a time and I can still hold a conversation when I get to the top, puffing a bit of course though.
    Every little helps...

Also when you have eaten a meal wait at least 25 minutes before deciding whether you are still hungry or not. It takes that long for your body to get the message food has already arrived. Works a treat for me anyway.
  • Well, I've lost 2 pounds, which considering I've been away is quite good. :j

I've eliminated the night snacking and only eat 'free food' such as carrots or celery. I've also been buying those pink and whites as they've got hardly anything in them and are sweet.

I've also been eating lots of cous cous with veg, which I love and don't get bored with.

Exercise wise I walk my dog twice a day and don't drive. With 3 small children I walk briskly (we're always late) every day. I also do the gardening (therapy) and am a bit of a cleaning freak.

I've cut out biscuits and chocolate altogether as I know I can't just have one. It's best to just not bother.

Does anyone have any other ideas for sweet low cal sweet stuff?

    Good luck everyone!! :T

Congrats to everyone on the losses :D

Re low cal sweet stuff - I've been trying sugar free jelly and mixing a bit of fruit in with it, or meringue nests with fruit but as I'm trying to train my brain and stomach out of expecting something sweet after meals, I'm trying to limit them to once every few days.

If I get really desperate for sweets I have a bag of sugar free dandelion and burdock sweets from a fab internet sweetie shop and I'll have one or two of those.
