Can I ask where you are for going because I was thinking of moving to TalkTalk but it sounds too cheap?
Well Martin MSE is recommending TalkTalk as the cheapest, but read the article on BB. Also look at 02 (if you have one of their mobiles) and Tiscali (who seem to have improved their service). Sky is also a very good option if they have their cheap service in your area.

TalkTalk is not available in my area. Sky would charge me £17 a month for broadband alone. O2 say I am outside their area but they would provide me with broadband for £17.50 a month as I am one of their customers.

I'll stay with Primus at £14 a month.

Primus messed me around, and following the advice on the ThinkBroadband forums, got AOL Silver,2Mb unlimited for £9.99 a month. They also offer CPS for all landline calls free. I know they have their critics, but the service has been excellent. You don't need to use their software any more, which had put me off using them before.

You could look at a Tiscali deal as they have some good ones at present. Personally I would stay well clear of AOL, they are so controlling, their home page, their email etc. Anyone who has ever received an email from an AOL user will know what I mean, you get the whole history as it seems you cannot delete previous ones, without going through a tedious process.

Is this a fact that you don't need to have AOL everything anymore ? I have a friend who sends me AOL emails and it is b****y hopeless. If I receive an attachment from her, it usually means opening the attachment 5 or 6 times.

I am with Newnet light user £12.95 a month, 3 gb, I never go over, if you do they apparently charge per gb. I can get it for less as I do not actually use anything like 3gb, we then put 1899 before all calls, and have found this the most economical for our usage. Cheers, oap ps we have never had a problem with connections or anything else and its very fast, they seem very efficient! been with them a couple of years nearly. :D
  • Come the start of next year, when my 18 month contract is at an end, i am thinking of putting the line rental and calls back to BT, and taking o2 for broadband, which will work out around £7 a month cheaper.

Plus, with Primus trying to overcharge on the last 4 months of bills, it is starting to become a joke, i signed up for broadband, 24/7 calls and line rental at £29.99 a month, i use 18185 for 0845/0870 and mobiles, so my Primus bill, is very seldom any more than the package price, they seem to be billing me for all 3 seperately, that comes to £36.47, rather than the package price.

After the 1st month, of this happening, i expect it to be sorted, and not still ongoing, 4 months later, add to that, the missing month that they never billed for, and are now trying to catch up with, hence the guess what week they will bill this month, the lack of any communication or even sorry, for the lack of broadband earlier in the year, the email service not working for about a week as well, this year for Primus, has been one disaster after another.

I don't know about any one else here, but i had a 1mb broadband service, and CPS evening/weekend calls with Primus, other than the hastle with the £15 cashback, i had no problems, the billing was correct, and at the same time every month, so i had no reason not to take another deal of them, once that 12 months had finished, but with all the hastles of the last 12 months with this latest deal/contract, i can't wait for the next 6 months to pass, to be honest, i don't think i will ever sign up for another 18 month contract again, as it now seems like an eternity for it to end.

I would imagine, that, going from the threads here, about Primus, and the problems people have had over the last few months, that considering, the original packages and the current packages, all appeared on the MSE forums, at the same time, that i would imagine, that many users contracts will run out at similar timings, it will be very interesting, if Primus had managed to bungle up so many bills, and what with the likes of o2/Talk Talk/Sky unbundling more exchanges, with that comes cheaper deals, how many people will stay/leave Primus at the end of their contract?

Looking like for like with BT for example, there is no saving on the line rental, i have gotten used to paper free billing, so even taking BT's 24/7 calls package (with rolling contract), i think this works out a £1 cheaper than Primus for 24/7 calls, add the £7.50 for o2 broadband, and this all adds up to around £23 a month, rather than Primus £30.

Primus were competitive 12 months ago, but with the landscape constantly changing, and more operators unbundling exchanges, call packages getting cheaper, Primus may well find it hard to keep their current customers once they are out of contract, especially if their pricing remains the same.

I connect automatically using my modem. You can use any browser or email client you like. After I started, I removed all their software . I don't use their email , but I have it set up on Thunderbird to receive their occasional emails. I can also send emails with their address via Thunderbird.
I get the connection from them, but that's it.
It's easy to opt out of all their c**p.

I was just looking at the "Internet Access" threads and noticed a new thread which states that Primus are moving their Sales And Customer Service to India! Apparently this is a fact and their UK Sales Dept. is closing down with effect from end October. I have just signed up with 02 and I am so glad, as my experience with Indian call centres with DELL has not been good. Poor lines, hard to understand sometimes, and the time taken! I feel like opening some champagne as 02 offer free customer service calls, and are UK based. (hope this lasts). On this new thread, one person has got out of their 18month contract, and if you signed up on the basis of a UK call centre, then this should be a get out clause if you want to leave. See the 02 thread as well and don't forget £60 cashback with Quidco!.

Thanks for letting me know. O2 is available in my area for £17.99 a month. Think it is time I took a look a round to see if there is anything better in my area, highly unlikely but I must try!!
