If there is no upper and lower band then it is normally because they are using an estimate for 06/07 that is lower than 05/06.
For example;
If declared income for 05/06 was £15000, then the lower band would've been £15000 and higher band £40000 for 06/07.
If the amount estimated for 06/07 was £10000 then your entitlement would be based on £10000, there is no higher band as you have to advise of any increase in your estimated income above £10000.0 -
I had an overpayment through - and I knew I had informed them as it went along and was getting a (roughly) correct account, couldn't see how I was being docked £40 per week. Checked the paperwork and they were calculated the overpayment on my money from the year before (despite me informing them that income had dropped by £17,000 when I stopped work, several times and in writing).
Got a little shirty on the phone, explaining to them what had happened, hey presto overnight overpayment vanished and my payments upped £5 a week to the correct level.
If your income went down from 04/05 to 05/06 make sure they used 05/06 figures with the final calculation - that's what my problem was0 -
We've had our "Final TC Award" for last financial year and they've really messed it up. OH is working fulltime and I'm a fulltime mum so I have NO income except child benefits and the tax credits. However, according to the paperwork I have other income equivalent to OH's wages :mad: So instead of an income of £20,970 it was saying we have an income of £41,940! Now if we had an income that high we wouldn't be in debt and would own our own house instead of renting! :rolleyes::rotfl:I phoned up straight away and had it corrected on the system. I just hope it gets sorted out soon as I was using the payments as extra payments on the credit cards to try and get them paid off :rolleyes:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0

The Tax Credit thing really panicks me, as I am so paranoid about them getting it wrong after all the bad press they seem to get. I got my Awards Notice today and - yes - they overpaid me in the tax period 05/06. They "lost" our original on-line application, hence a delay in them making any payments at all. Then we got a flurry of cheques and direct bank credits last August, all of which seemed to add up to what they owed us for 04/05 and 05/06. However, lo and behold, this has manifested itself in an overpayment of nearly £450. I know this is not the thousands you read about in the press, but it equates to £42 per month, which they are stopping at source (ie, my bank account). We are on such a tight budget (and still stinging from a £28 per month increase in our Council tax, with no increase in our income). We accept that the amount in question certainly looks like an overpayment, but the bloke I spoke to at the Tax Credit Office said today that it obviously wasn't our fault. I have no problem paying this money back - in theory. In practice, I am financially on my knees. Can we ask them to reinstate the bulk of the payments, paying back only a small amount each month? If so, how do we approach this subject with the Tax Credit Office? Can anyone help, please?0
