At the moment, I get just over £10 a week child tax credit, and I became a student last october, I phoned them to let them know and they just said to leave it till I get my reminder, but they've put it on the system.
A friend of mine was working in the tax credit offices, and she worked out my future payments from April 06 and said that it should increase to £33 a week, as I have no income.
I phoned tax credits last week, and they said oh yes the forms being sent out very soon, but your circumstances havent changed that much, so your payments only slightly changed. i was gobsmacked, I thought that it would increase immediately. Whats going on?0 -
I got my renewal form this morning and I called them to raise a query about one of the questions. I started claiming IS in January 2006 and the first question asks if I have claimed any benefits for the whole of the period - well, I haven't, only since January but there is nowhere on the Form that I can stipulate when I started claiming. I don't want this to cause problems next year and they end up claiming money back from me. God knows how this will affect my claim. My only income is Carers Allowance for caring for my disabled daughter which they already know about.
She told me I could complete the Form over the telephone (?) and I wouldn't need to return the Form to them. I have sent the Form back to them and kept a copy in my file, just in case.0 -

Did you stop work to become a student ?, if you now work less than 16hrs per week, its possible that your now just entitled to CTC and opposed to WTC and CTC before you became a student .I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
im worried about getting mine too... its my first one and im convinced its going to go all wrong since i told them about a new job too late and i got overpaid..:A Boots Tart :A0

Did you give them your new income estimate for this tax year (06/07) when you called last week?
If you didnt, then your claim will be still be based on the info you provided in Oct05.0 -
I am so glad that we are no longer eligable for anything and it has come through saying £0.00.
Few, no calls this year telling this is wrong and that is wrong. Just got to pay back the mess they made from the year before last and last year.
I never thought I would be glad to be told I was not entitled to anything.0 -

The question asks if you were receiving IS for the whole of the 05/06 Tax year, and as you have already provided the start date when you contacted HMRC in Jan06 (assuming you have), there is no need to provide it again, hence no space on the declaration.
You will also need to provide the 05/06 income figure for the Carers Allowance you receive.
If in doubt ring the Helpline and they will be able to take the info/income from you over the phone, and save you the bother of sending in the form.0 -
Excuse ..slightly different angle...this tax year should be the last claim we make for child tax credit..so as long as income is not 25k more (haha) this tax year..then i wont be asked to pay anything back ..am i right? It wud be so nice to not hav to face any problems next tax year.

Dazzer G - I didn't give them my income, I just told them I was giving up childminding to become a student nurse.
CIS - I've never got WTC, only ever got CTC.
I'm paying about £ 10 a week for breakfast club at kids school, can I claim that back? Also, every time I get my forms, its says I've only got one child, is CTC only based on one??
I just want the form to come, so I know either way whats going on, because they're useless on the phone.0 -

Good Luck to the rest of you0
