Thanks for that Mrs M - ie the making it as "step by step" as possible - some of us newbies are distinctly lacking in confidence on how-to..:D

I'm growing lots in pots and hanging baskets this year.

I have tumbling tom tomatoes, apache chillies to go into hanging baskets

Sweet peppers to go into pots

Peas....will be sowing runner beans in the next week or so

Paramex carrots in tubs....I've also planted seeds of cut and come again lettuce, radish, spring onions, garlic

    Potatoes in sacks

There's lots to grow in pots!

    Newbie here.

I bought some kits in Wilkinsons - they are a plastic type shopping bag with compost and seeds and each bag has the pic of the vegetable on. I got beans, beetroot and carrots. My neighbour was surprised at the carrot pack as she thought as a rule of thumb they need two spades depth to grow. Do you think they will be OK or did I fall for a gimick?

    Thanks

Gardener's Delight is a very good variety for outdoors. Right now they can be hardened off outdoors, but bring them indoors or greenhouse etc overnight if there's any risk of frost.

I'm trying to grow these. I think I've done it wrong tho. I randomly sprinkled the seeds onto soil in flat tray and I put them in my naff plastic greenhouse where they#re been for the past 4 days and nights. The soil was very dry today. I've watered them and brought them into the house. Should I leave them in the house or put them out in the day if its hot? How long does this variety take to germinate? Thanks.:o

    Hi butterfly72 :)

I wouldn't give up hope on your tomato seeds! Keep them on a sunny window sill, there's nothing wrong with putting them out if it's hot, but they need warm temperatures at night so I'd just leave them on the window sill incase you forget to bring them back in again! Yes soil should be kept moist. You can put cling film over the tray or put it in a plastic bag, this will help keep them moist and give them more warmth, but remove this as soon as they start to come through or if the soil starts to go moldy before then! I'm sure they will come through in a few days ;) I've just had some cape gooseberry's come through today, apparently they are a relative and need similar conditions as tomatoes and I sowed them on the 13th ;)
