Well it's better than a kick up the backside I suppose but it's a bit of a wet lettuce punishment isn't it. The OFT are basically saying "Hey you - you're breaking the law - so you should jolly well stop doing it please".

I note that the OFT investigation took 16 months to complete from start to finish. When you add that to the period of time it took to amass enough complaints to trigger the investigation in the first place, you're looking at a considerable amount of time during which this deliberate malpractice was in operation.

I dread to think how much money Adaptive Affinity made during this period! A good few hundred thousand is my guess.

So the message is clear- if you're considering scamming people out of their hard earned money, you've probably got at least 3 years to make hay while the sun shines. And then you get to keep everything you stole from your victims illegally without facing any fines or legal prosecution.

    Hardly a deterrent is it?

It's blatantly obvious that those highly intelligent and cunning devils at Adaptive Affinity who dreamt up this extremely well calculated scam always knew right from the start that they were operating illegally and that the OFT would eventually tell them to put a stop to it. Hence the two pronged attack on our bank accounts to claw in as much money as possible in a limited amount of time.

The entire operation was never intended to generate profit as a stand alone website- it was purely created with the sole intention of scamming people out of money by using the methods described by the OFT. The tinpot nature of websites such as RewardsNow (non competitive prices, using famous branded company logos without permission etc) further indicates that the quality of the service they are offering is just an afterthought of the true nature of their intentions. RewardsNow cannot possibly generate any money as a stand alone website. Who on earth would pay £240 a year for a service that just lets you know what offers high street stores are running on obscure items such as a White Distressed Kashmir Lantern (I kid you not).

So what now for Adaptive Affinity? I'll bet £19.95 that we'll see a new "brand" being created in 2012 to take over from where RewardsNow left off now that it's name has been tarnished by a potentially harmful bad press over this OFT interjection. They've done it before so why not again?

And of course a clean slate also gives them another 3 or 4 years to make as much money as they possibly can before the OFT comes knocking in 2016 asking them to stop it again.

Anyway, rant over. I'm going to enjoy Christmas knowing that at least something has been done about this mob. I do hope Santa brings me that White Distressed Kashmir Lantern I've always wanted :D
  • I've also just discovered today that i have fell fowl to this scam. Luckily i'm only 80 quid out of pocket . I applied for a "free" credit check from creditscorematters.co.uk. Free trial period then a monthly charge if you dont cancel in a certain time frame. I duely cancelled within that period. Thought nothing more to it till today. Checking through my bank statements online an "rewardsnow" kept cropping up for £19.95. Didnt have a clue what this was for till i started to investigate a little further. Any advice on how to get my money back.??? I hate getting ripped off!!
  • Guys just fell victim to this scam, did not receive welcome email nor did I click 'I want the Asda voucher' wont stop chasing them until I get a full refund. Noticed some people on here have received further account deductions even after they have received the cancellation email, I would suggest contacting your bank and inform the fraud team that Rewards Now have taken money from your account which you did not authorise. Even if they cant give you the money back themselves they will send you a letter confirming that any further charges from them will be returned automatically by the bank and rewards now will be investigated by them. Apparently this is all my bank can do for me as they are not operating illegally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont understand how they are still getting away with this! this post was opened over two years ago?

There is an government e-petition regarding Rewards Now unfortunatley I cant post the link being a new member! If everyone signs the petition maybe something can be done! its open for year so I guess it depends on how many people Rewards Now can defraud, my guess is thousands!

  • I registered for Creditscorematters in Dec and received a letter asking for documentary evidence of residence which I sent. Only when they were satisfied with this was I allowed to access my credit record, as advised by email on 20 Dec. When I checked my credit card account last week, I was surprised to see that I had been charged £19.95 by Creditscorematters on 19 Dec, i.e, before I could start the supposed 10-day free trial. Like others, I was at the same time charged £19.95 for RewardsNow. Reading your earlier replies to this thread which suggested I did not read the terms and conditions carefully, I went back to them and scrutinised them very carefully but found no mention of being enrolled for RewardsNow and I certainly never clicked any button for Asda - never shop there - too far away from where I live. Encouraged by the recent replies on this thread, I promptly cancelled my membership of both online (no problems - have kept confirmation emails just in case) and emailed a complaint outling the points above and referring to the discussion on this thread, especially the undertakings given by Adaptive Affinity to OFT. Within 24 hours I received an email confirming that both payments are being refunded. The refunds have yet to reach my account but it does seem that this campaign is improving matters even if they are far from perfect. Thank you.
  • THIS SITE IS A CON! The problem is they are integrated on some very well known sites and look as if they are part of the sites discount structure giving them some credance. This is how i was stung! TWICE

The only way to rid us of these thieves is to complain to the sites that host the adverts. Trading Standards dont seem to care.
  • I see this thread started two and a half years ago is this a record for incompetent inaction by those on the public payroll?
  • HI peps , Im another one of people to join this queue, Im having the same trouble youve all had Im in the process of writing my letter now ,Ive gone in and cancelled the membership but what I want to know is if I were to cancel my card that they have on the system and they refund me )my just short of £60.00 )will they honour it ,if I were to cancel the card it was originally set up with?
