This is my first post here, hello all.

I too experienced acute frustration with Rewards Now and Credit Score Matters. Absolute rubbish. I didn't agree to any terms and conditions, no ASDA voucher. Nothing at all.

Anyway, my first letter of complaint to them wasn't challenging enough, and I received a response saying they wouldn't be able to refund me. Their idea of proof of me entering an agreement with them, was to attach a screenshot of their website. Quite insufficient methinks.

I then proceeded to write the below, and received this positive response. They have said that they will refund me within 7-10 days. I will confirm with you all if it happens.

Don't give up. And should you want to take anything from my letter below, please feel free and I really hope you succeed.

    All the best,
    ClarkyCat

Correspondence with CreditScoreMatters/Rewards Now/Adaptive -- whoever the devil they are

    Dear Faye,

Thank you for your email received on 26 July 2011.

A full refund of £39.90 has been processed on your behalf. Please allow 7-10 working days for this be credited to your account.

We are always happy to help and welcome the possibility of you subscribing with Credit Score Matters in the future.

    Yours sincerely,

    To: Contact Creditscorematters; Contact Rewardsnow

I write further to the debits that your company has made from my bank account on xxxx xxxxx xxxx, in the sum of £xx.xx by Credit Score Matters and a £xx.xx by Rewards Now. I do not recall agreeing to your organisation taking such payments. Furthermore, I do not appear to have received any products or services from either of these companies. Please acknowledge receipt of this email and provide the following information:

    - Details of the terms and conditions on which you are relying in order to take these payments and evidence of my agreement to such terms;

    - Details of how you came to receive my bank details/debit card details;

    - A screen shot showing how the terms and conditions were presented on your website;

I am deeply unhappy at what I consider to be the very underhanded tactics used to establish my account. Clearly I am not the only person who feels this way, as a search on the internet reveals much adverse comment and publicity.

I confirm that I wish to cancel any subscription with immediate effect and do not authorise any further payments. I also request an immediate refund of any payments taken from my account. In the absence of an agreement to refund these charges I require that you provide a copy of your complaints procedure and details of any third parties to whom you are obliged to refer unresolved complaints.

Should you fail to provide the above in timely manner I reserve the right to report the matter to the Office of Fair Trading.

    Regards,

If you start at post one, you will discover how other people eventually got redress.
As the enterprise could have the elements of a conspiracy - see if you can be the first to get them into court.
(It takes at least two unmarried legal entities to create a conspiracy).

Alternatively see if you can get your trading standards office to take up your cause.

rewards first are offering a £15 cashback to people who sign up to their site using the link on the booking confirmation on flybe.com

i've signed up, then immediately cancelled, and i've sent my letter claiming the £15 cashback

i've got screenshots of the entire lot.

hopefully they wont still try to attempt to charge my credit card

the claim for the cashback is sent to the same office as vista print. postcode HA8 4DX

EDIT: cancellation confirmation received - all in the same day
  • I was scammed through Flybe and Rewards First (Adaptive Affinity) only agreed to give me a partial refund, despite being unable to provide any proof of my so called membership (they didn't even have my name or address only my credit card number!! I cancelled my credit card to avoid any further charges and the fraud department at the bank are dealing with this now - and they brought in the Police!! I complained to the Office of Fair Trading and also to the Consumer Protection Group.

I intend to complain to my local MP regarding this company's illegal business activities - these people are criminals, pure and simple!! They are also extremely stupid if they think that "stealing" is not a crime just because they hide behind a desk!!

I only hope enough people keep on complaining and maybe the OFT will be forced to take more serious action against them and close them down for good.

Rewards First (Adaptive Affinity) only agreed to give me a partial refund.

If I was you I'd continue to press them for the evidence of membership that they clearly haven't got. I don't know how many times you've contacted them but they are like a dog with a bone when they deal with a "customer" who's had a large sum taken from their account. You have to keep at them (this worked for previous posters here). Asking a couple of times simply doesn't work.

If you're serious about taking them on, it will be extremely advantageous if you continue to pursue them because you will then be in the position to show your bank, the OFT, the police etc that you have requested legal evidence several times and that all requests were ignored.

Just remember that this company always take this approach with anybody who has lost large sums. They want you to take their word for it when they refuse refunds (sadly this probably works in a high percentage of cases). I'd guess that they refused me a refund around 8 or 9 times before they paid up. And that was just for the single month's bounty of £19.95. So keep at them or they'll be laughing all the way to the bank.

The template letter I wrote on the previous page of this forum may be of use to you if you alter it to suit your situation.

I've never had any dealings with either of these websites, but just a quick look at the Terms and Conditions on both makes it clear that they are membership based services which - after a trial period - will be charged for on a monthly basis. This is not hidden in any way that I can see, so why do you say it's a scam?

If you haven't already followed the procedure for termination of membership given in the T&Cs (Section 6) then you should do so asap.

Beware of ordering a new credit card from the same company - this is not likely to have the effect that you want.

i call it a scam because the website doesnt work once you register it tells you its sending you login details then never does so you never get to see you credit score and also misleads you and get you to register for rewards now without your knowlege.
  • Thank You For that post as that has just helped my problem in getting my refund thank you very much

I bombarded this company with dozens of emails and threw everything but the kitchen sink at them. I've tried to pick out the best bits and created a letter which pretty much covers everything I hit them with.

I must admit that the tone of my own correspondence was often not as polite as my letter below but I felt it was important that I didn't include anything libelous with this draft. I'm sure you can imagine the type of accusations I hurled at them. Let's just say that most of my emails didn't begin with "Dear Sir/Madam".

I am by no means an expert at this type of thing but all I can do is show everyone what worked for me and resulted in Rewardsnow giving me a refund. I must remind you all that there is a possibility that nothing in this letter actaully made them back down. Perhaps they did it to stop the bombardment or maybe it was because they sent me an email addressed to somebody else and realised they could get into trouble for doing it.

I would always advise you to harass them by visiting their site and clicking on "contact us" at the bottom of their home page. When you fill in their complaint form, you receive an automated email (check out your spam) stating that they will respond within 48 hours. Because of this automated email, they do tend to reply whereas they like to ignore direct emails. They have a policy of replying to general emails by sending you a template response and then ignoring your reply because they feel they have answered your query. Raising a new "internal" complaint each and every time you contact them gets a response every time. I personally sent the same emails to each and every email address that had been in contact with me throughout the matter as well as the internal complaint facility.

Anyway, here's what I came up with. The emphasis is very much on challenging them to prove you have enrolled with Rewardsnow. They may be able to, but they may not. It's worth a try in my opinion. I hope it's of use to somebody:

    Dear Sir/Madam.

I am writing to you today in order to ascertain the reasons behind money being taken from my bank account/credit card by Rewardsnow.co.uk without my permission.

I have never heard of Rewardsnow.co.uk and have at no point enrolled with your company. Therefore, I wish to request your evidence of any enrollment which you consider to be legally valid.

Please be aware that legally valid evidence does not consist of vague template emails or any copies of non specific documentation devoid of the name of the addressee or membership/reference numbers. I wish to see all documentation referring to this "membership" and reserve the right to issue your company with a Subject Access Request if you fail to do so.

It is essential that you are aware that I will begin legal proceedings against your company unless you provide legally binding evidence of any enrollment which you believe has given you the right to withdraw money from my bank account/credit card without my express permission.

I also request an immediate full refund of £XX.XX to my bank account/credit card as well as confirmation of cancellation of any "account" held in my name. Furthermore, I request a full written apology and your assurances that there will be no further withdrawals at any point in the future.

Please provide me with full details of your official complaints procedure as I wish to begin the process of escalating this matter to the authorities which regulate your industry. I will ultimately be providing the Office of Fair Trading and the Financial Ombudsman with details of your handling of my complaint which may result in action being taken against your company. I wish to state that it will not suffice if you deal with this request by simply supplying an address to which I should direct my complaint. I am within my rights to request a copy of your official complaints procedure and therefore expect you to deal with my request appropriately.

Failure to adhere to any of the above requests (which are all perfectly legitimate) will be recorded and provided to the relevant authorities in due course along with copies of all correspondence between myself and you company.

I believe it is reasonable to expect your response within 48 hours.

    Sincerely

    Fyffes xx

Thanks Fyffes! Your post helped me to get my money back. They are going to refund the money within 7-10 working days! I had put an email before and they just sent me back some sample email saying that I clicked a link and agreeded to the terms! So I changed your email a little bit and got a quick response saying that my money is being refunded:) This however is not an end I have reported them to Action Fraud and the police and hopefuly this company will be closed down. Thanks again Fyffes!!!
