Hi everyone
I'm speaking to BarclaysManager but meanwhile, could everyone try to get back on track to discuss the original subject? If not and the matter's run it's course I'll just close the thread.
Thanks!

I think I ought to clear any doubts about my name. Joe Bloggs has a Wikipedia entry here. I have even seen the name on the HMRC site in relation to filling in tax forms.

BarclaysManager
I missed you asking, but I'll happily tell you.
You can have a Personal Reserve that operates in addition to, or separately, from your overdraft. Your Reserve is for a set amount, up to £2500, subject to status. If you need to use your Reserve, you can use that amount for five days for a fixed fee of £22. You can then go in and out of that Reserve as much as you like, and the fee remains the same regardless of the number of transactions.Thank you for the reply, much appreciated. I was worried because someone had said that customers would have to opt out rather than opt in.
Strangely enough when the confused poster was mislead by the causistry of the original statement there was no response from BM. 'You can have....' strongly implies voluntarism, whereas the truth is this system was enacted by press-ganging customers. It's all very well to preach financial responsibility but what are state benefits now - £70 per week? How can you pay to eat and travel to interviews on that if your bank helps itself to £22 of it weekly?
A person who had played a part (or at least had deep knowledge of the people who did - how else would you know it was developed through confidential discussions with regulators) in developing a system of charging fees so as to sidestep expected new regulations could well feel they want to defend it in public. Whether this is as a paid defence of the bank or as a way to keep their proposals secure from challenge is another question.
Remeber Barclays is the bank that wanted to introduce widespread charging for use of ATMs in the UK. "Every penny counts".0 -
Can I just point out that BarclaysManager has not posted, since this thread.
It would be a crying shame to see that stand so if you're reading don't take it to heart - we all wind each other up on here and yea, things get heated but you know we do respect your views (most the time) and would hate to see you go.
Come back and carry on with the educated discussions - of which actually, you do put up a good ole fight!
